It was started initially on 2nd Nov., 2010, for supplementing the working of efloraofindia google e-group and later shifted gears for documenting Flora of India that is being discussed on the group. It also has the largest database on net on Indian Flora with more than 12,000 species (along with more than 3,00,000 pictures as on 31.3.18, from some of the best Flora Photographers of India, at its efloraofindia e-group links. It also includes some species from around the world, which has been posted by our members. More than 1,70,000 images (as on 31.5.19) have already been displayed at species’ pages along with displaying these at genera & family pages for comparative purposes for easy identification. Efforts are further being made to display images on all discussion threads and taking overall numbers of such images to say 3,00,000.

efloraofindia e-group (initially Indiantreepix) is the largest Google e-group in the world in this field & largest nature related in India (and the most constructive, with more than 3,000 members & 3,00,000 messages on 23/8/18) devoted to creating awareness, helping in identification (e-gurukul) etc. along with discussion & documentation of Indian Flora. It has already completed more than 12 years of service on 17.6.19.

A species database (Alphabetically family wise- Seed plants etc.) is being maintained on this website family wise, genera wise & then species wise. Intent of this database is compilation of all the posts on 'efloraofindia' e- group along with providing other details so that it’s useful to all concerned as all the data about a particular species will be available under a single page & easily searchable. New threads are added at the bottom of the page before references. Attempts are also being made to update genera pages so as to incorporate most of the species available in India & nearby areas with details & keys (photographic as well as textual) directly or through links as far as possible. Species database pages contain botanical names with publication details &their synonyms mostly from 'The Plant List'/ GRIN/ eFloras (Flora of Pakistan/ Nepal/ China)/ e-books from India/ other references etc., pronunciation, etymology & nativity, common names in different languages, descriptions (it can also be checked from reference links of eFloras/ e-books/ flowersofindia site etc. given at the bottom), efloraofindia e-group discussion links (which contain full discussions verbatim along with pictures from foremost Flora photographers & experts), summarised discussions from these links, flowering data/ place of pictures, important links, reference links etc. Great contributions have been made by those in the list of The Pillars, Other Experts, Moderators & Major Contributors with regard to documentation & identification of posted species along with taking care of other aspects.

Surfing efi has become much easier with subpage listings. Members are now allowed to insert images in efi site from efi e-group discussions. There has been tremendous response to this initiative & we now having images on almost all pages in efi site. Insertion of images will also increase the accuracy of efloraofindia database.

More than twelve thousand species' pages of seed plants (Alphabetically family wise- Seed plants etc.), ferns, fungi & others are available with details for those species which have already been discussed in efloraofindia e-group. Any species can be easily searched by adding in the 'Search this site' at top. Lot of species' pages have (?) after them indicating that in the efloraofindia (indiantreepix) links/ discussions, species need to be further looked into as it may or may not be the stated species due to lack of proper feedback in the threads. Correctness of data/ identification in the efloraofindia (indiantreepix) links/ discussions is dependent on the members' inputs & sometimes outside experts' inputs in that particular link. Therefore, errors/ mistakes cannot be ruled out- everyone is requested to point them out for corrections by sending a mail to our Moderators at itpmods@googlegroups.com by non-members or to indiantreepix@googlegroups.com by its members. Efloraofindia e-group members can also add comments about it after 'signing in' at the bottom of the page.
