Use of Google Earth to Visualize Student-Collected Air Pollution Data

Session Description

Using Google Tools To Visualize Student Collected Data

In this session we will discuss our use of Google Earth as an educational tool, with a focus on data visualization.  Students from around the world are using Google Earth in a new way to display air pollution data that they collected at their schools.

As a participant in the GO3 Project, students set up air pollution monitoring instruments at their schools.  Their data is automatically uploaded every 15 minutes for display in a Google Earth overlay.  Anyone with an internet connection can now see worldwide air pollution measurements displayed in one database, something that the students are pioneering.

  • Suggested audience: Anyone
  • Prior experience or knowledge: Beginners (new to this topic). Participants should download Google Earth before the session.
