As the first effects of the financial crisis of 2007 started to show up, the comparison with the economic crisis of 1929 became more common in the analysis of some of the main economists today. The similarities between both crises were then emphasized with frequency and quickly the new crisis got a benchmark, which directed the expectations concerning its future developments. This work does a comparative analysis of the mentioned crises in the United States, based on the reconstruction of the historical narrative, with its antecedents and main milestones, and on the account of the containment and reversal actions taken by the American government. The different points of view on the causes and combating instruments used against both crises are introduced in a way that is possible to identify on which paradigms the government could build its action plan.
