The following databases are available from the SUNY Old Westbury Library in the field of education. Use these databases to find citations, abstracts, full-text journal articles and other research materials.  You must be a member of the College to access these databases from off campus. When accessing from an off-campus computer, you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Use the same username and password that you use to log onto campus computers. These resources can also be accessed through the Library's Search Databases page.

Core Education Databases

The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) database contains more than 1,300,000 records and links to more than 317,000 full-text documents dating back to 1966.  Updated monthly.   
Education Research Complete is a bibliographic and full-text database covering scholarly research and information relating to all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialities, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,200 journals, and full text for nearly 500 books and monographs.   

Additional Databases
This multi-disciplinary database provides many full-text articles, abstracts, and citations from scholarly journals, popular magazines, and newspapers.  The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887.  Use Academic Search Complete to search for information in nearly every area of academic study.   
Provides an extensive array of information about children's books, video and audio recordings, film strips, and other children-focused media. Contains more than 260,000 critical reviews of thousands of children's books, ranging from the earliest baby board-books to novels and nonfiction for young adults, and an average of more than 1500 new reviews are added to the database monthly. Reading levels are assigned to each evaluated book.
This searchable database of curricula, frameworks and standards brings together educational objectives, content, instructional strategies and evaluative techniques for all subjects covered in PreK-12 and Adult Basic Education.
A full-text database containing legal, business, news and reference information.  Useful database for finding news articles on Education.
Mental Measurements Yearbook, produced by Buros Institute, includes consumer-oriented test reviews. Provides evaluative information to promote informed test selection. Typical test entries include descriptive information, professional reviews and reviever references. To be included, a test must be commercially available, be published in English language, and be new, revised, or widely used since it last appeared in the series.
Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of more than 520 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. Also contains more than 200 educational reports.
ProQuest Central is a large multidisciplinary database containing articles from scholarly journals, magazines, trade publications and newspapers. Full-text is available for many articles. 
PsycINFO  [OW] 
The PsycINFO database, American Psychological Association's (APA) renowned resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, is the largest resource devoted to peer-reviewed literature in behavioral science and mental health. It contains nearly 3 million citations and summaries dating as far back as the 1600s. Journal coverage, which spans from the 1800s to the present, includes international material selected from more than 2,400 periodicals in nearly 30 languages.  Use this database to find articles on Educational Psychology, Educational Counseling and related subjects.    

K-12 Databases
Country Watch  [OW] 
Demographic and geographic data as well as current news articles on all countries. Also offers the CountryWatch Youth Edition
tailored towards the elementary or middle school student exploring the people, politics, economy, culture, and environment of the world's recognized countries as well as the global events that shape our world.  
Provides full-text for over 70 popular, magazines for elementary school research. Included among these are: Appleseeds, Cobblestone, Cricket, Highlights for Children, Hopscotch, Jack & Jill, Ladybug, Ranger Rick, Science World, Spider, SuperScience, and Turtle. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.
