Welcome Youth Basketball Players
The EGYBA is dedicated to youth basketball development and competition in the City of Edmonton and Capital Region and is an organization that counts on a significant number of parent volunteers to operate effectively. Our club operates during the spring basketball season to extend the school and community basketball seasons from the end of April until the end of June and sometimes beyond. We are a proud supporter of the Go Centre project and will use the Go Centre extensively upon completion.
The primary difference between spring basketball and club basketball is our teams are usually made up of similarly skilled players and we encourage our teams to travel to tournaments outside of Edmonton throughout the spring/club basketball season. Our spring league/tournament teams will play twice the number of games the typical spring league only team will play and will attend 2-4 tournaments.
Some of our teams may be tournament focused only and will concentrate more on practice and skills development. Some of our elite teams will travel to the USA to participate in a variety of tournaments and camps.
The EGYBA does NOT run a spring league but we do participate in the leagues run by the EYBA and Jasper Place High School.
The EGYBA has teams from U13 to U17 for boys and girls in the Edmonton region. We will also support teams beyond U17 in the U19 or Open Divisions. In 2008 and 2009 we assembled over 20 Edmonton teams which participated in either spring leagues, tournament play or both. In 2011, we will have fewer teams.
Our club is made up of teams that are formed by local coaches that recruit players from specific areas of the city and a few all-star teams that run formal tryouts. Though we see a lot of changes in our teams year to year, many teams have remained together for multiple years.
If you are interested in playing with the Grads, drop us a note with your birth year, playing history and contact info and we will let you know what opportunities are available at your age and skill level to participate. Don't wait, we would ideally like to hear from players by the middle of February if they are interested in a team or tryout.
