Do I have to drive to you for lessons?
Yes. I teach lessons at the Edmonds Cello Studio.

At what age can my child study music?
Cello can be physically challenging for the very young, so I recommend that a child not begin until the age of 5 at the very earliest.

I do not have a cello at home, is this okay?
It is absolutely essential to the learning process that the student have regular access to a cello. Suitable beginning instruments are easily rented at local music stores. Additionally, there are many excellent violinmakers in the Seattle area for those interested in purchasing an instrument. Some of these violinmaking shops also rent out instruments.

What are the benefits of taking music lessons?
There have been many studies showing the benefits of playing and listening to music:
        1. Exposure to music makes you smarter!
        2. Playing an instrument develops personal discipline.
        3. Music relieves stress and provides an outlet for creative expression.
        4. Studying music can create a strong sense of achievement.
        5. Playing music is just plain fun!

I have two children who want to take lessons for a half-hour each; can I get the hourly rate, or do I have to pay for two half-hour lessons?
If your children have back-to-back lessons, then you will only get charged the hourly rate.

Can I take lessons every other week or once every month?
Yes, while I strongly recommend weekly lessons for the sake of continuity, you can take lessons every other week or even once a month. Only, be advised that students who take lessons on a less than weekly basis progress markedly slower than weekly attenders.

Can I take lessons twice a week?
Yes, you may take lessons as often as you would like; just let me know your preference.

What is your cancellation policy?
A lesson may be canceled provided that I receive 24-hour advanced notice.  You may
choose to reschedule the lesson or else receive a lesson credit to be applied to the next
month's tuition.  For further details, please see the Studio Policies.

When is tuition due?
Monthly tuition is due at the first lesson of each month.  Late tuition may be subject to a $10 late-fee. For further details, please see the Studio Policies.

How much should I/my child practice?  How can I help my child practice?
The amount of time a student should practice varies depending on age, experience and long-term goals. A beginning student of any age should practice a minimum of 15 minutes, 5 days per week. This is a bare minimum and is expected to be increased based on the maturity and ability of the student. After meeting you and discussing your goals, I can better advise on a suitable practice regimen.
