President Robert Gabriel Mugabe (Moo-ga:-bee)

has destroyed Zimbabwe over many years. Believe it or not, he was initially a black African freedom fighter associated with Nelson Madela's ANC !!  Today, 28 years after Independence in 1980, he claimsDivine Right to rule.

My first knowledge of the worsening reality came some 6 years ago when some UK girls came here to Melbourne, Australia on a short-term mission from OASIS. The 'angels' had spent several months in Zimbabwe (formerly Southern Rhodesia) and were cared for by Melbourne group Urban Seed. They described the scarcity of basic foodstuffs and even soap.

Inflation in Zimbabwe is now at galactic levels. Money is devalued every few hoursZimbabwe's  inflation  rate  is  estimated  to  be  FOUR  MILLION  PERCENT !!  For virtually all the human population (15 million), the economy is destroyed. White farmers have been evicted all over the country - with the land restributed - a la Nazi Germany - to Mugabe tyrants.  The currency - Zimbabwe dollars - is worthless. In a nation where life is cheap, one US dollar (5 BILLION Zimbabwe dollars) will buy a contract killing.

More than 90 Opposition MDC Party leaders - 14 in one rercent bloody week - have been murdered by Mugabe death squads in pre-election mayhem - often by petrol bomb.  Many democracy activists have been forced by Mugabe thugs into homelessness.

Mugabe heard the voice of the people in recent Zimbabwe elections on March 29. But the megalomaniac wasn't happy. He, his ZANU party and generals refused to step aside for President-elect Morgan Tsvangirai (leader, Movement for Democratic Change) . The anti-white Mugabe desperately clung to power - carefully avoiding announcing any 'results' for one month. The tyrant forced a new election on June 27 - by claiming that neither side had reached 50 percent of the vote in the March 29 poll. Opposition leaders and activists regularly beaten up and murdered - 14 in one bloody recent week. This forced the MDC to abandon the poll. But Mugabe went ahead with his loopy 'election'. The MDC leader himself has been in exile and now shelters in the Dutch embassy in Zimbabwe.... Mugabe has now been sworn in as President - by a token, robed Judge).

That such tyranny is STILL happening is a sad reflection on international diplomacy and 'global police' eg USA or UN. Leaders of nearby African nations - notably Thabo Mbeki (South Africa) - turn a blind eye to Mugabe. South Africa has observer status on the UN Security Council, while other allies there are China and Russia. They use veto powers to vote down any diplomatic assault on Zimbabwe. Coincidentally, China eagerly eyes large platinum and other mineral reswerves eg copper. Meanwhile, together with his generals in Joint Operational Command, former freedom fighter Mugabe (very) generously lines his Swiss bank accounts with the blood, sweat and indeed lives of the Zimbabwe people.

As John Winter's friend writes below, Zimbabwe is on the cusp of Genocide. (Think Rwanda. Think Killing Fields.)

Whatever you do, think !!

If you do that much, then tell others about these genocidal criminals.

If you do that much, (learn to) build a WebSite yourself, boycott South African products.

Declare your feelings !! Put pressure on organisations/ groups/ unions/religious bodies/schools/Churches to PUBLICLY declare their awareness of the Zimbabwe catastrophe, especially on Front (home) pages.

Statement from Archbishop Desmond Tutu (April 24 2008):

Zimbabwe is staring into the abyss. Violence is growing and the people are suffering greatly as a result. It is now vital that we all do what we can to calm the situation.

In particular I join the worldwide calls to stop the supply of weapons to the country--by land, sea or air--until the political crisis is resolved. It is obvious that supplying large quantities of arms at this stage would risk escalating the violence, perhaps resulting in the large-scale loss of life. We should be proud of the African Trade Unions and governments who refused to let the most recent Chinese shipment off-load in their ports but China must now agree not to try and send these arms by air instead.

I join the South African church leaders in urging all governments to immediately start work at the UN level to agree a binding UN arms embargo as quickly as possible. In the meantime I hope that every country will agree to a moratorium on the supply of any arms to the country.

If violence flares further in Zimbabwe, those supplying the weapons will be left with blood on their hands. It is up to every country in the region and beyond to take a stand.

Hello friends

This is an email forwarded to me by the director of an organisation I volunteered with in Uganda.
It is the email from his friend in Zimbabwe alerting us to the situation there.
I am not sure how to respond. Any ideas?
Avaaz.com has a petition to sign and more information on their website which you can access at: http://www.avaaz.org/en/no_arms_for_zimbabwe/5.php/?cl=79154078
Much love

Letter from Zimbabwe sent in by John Winter. Please read the full text HERE.

I reckon that these are the last days of TKM and ZPF. The darkest hour is always before dawn. We are all terrified at what they are going to destroy next. I mean they are actually ploughing down brick and mortar houses and one white family with twin boys of 10 had no chance of salvaging anything when 100 riot police came in with AK47's and bulldozers and demolished their beautiful house - 5 bedrooms and pine ceilings - because it was 'too close to the airport', so we are feeling extremely insecure right now...

To be frank with you, it's genocide in the making and if you do not believe me, read the Genocide Report by Amnesty International which says we are - IN level 7 - (level 8 is after it's happened and everyone is in denial..
This Government has GONE MAD and you need to help us publicize our plight...
How can I take on another family of 4 -----and yet how can I turn them away to sleep out in the open? I am not asking you for money or a ticket out of here - I am asking you to FACE the fact that we are in deep and terrible danger and want you please to pass on our news and pictures. So PLEASE don't just press the delete button! Help best in the way that you know how...

This is extracted from Margaret Kriel's Zimbabwe Morning Mirror, please try and pass it on to as many people as you can.

Dear World,
I am a 16 year old person living in Zimbabwe . I think the time has come for a more direct appeal, and so I am writing to you, the world.
Maybe, just maybe, there might be someone out there who can help us...
It's tough here now. The inflation rate is so high that if you don't change money within 6 hours you could get half the amount of foreign currency that you would have originally received.
We're starving now; people die around us. In the last year alone at least ten people associated personally with my family have died despite the fact that they were only middle-aged. Other people don't make it to middle age. They don't even make it past childhood.
Our once-proud nation is on it's knees. We flee or die. This beautiful, bountiful once-rich land has become a living hell. We have dealt with it until now; we have made a plan. That was the Zimbabwean motto: 'MAKE A PLAN'.
But now we can't make a plan. We're too tired, too broken, too bankrupt. We can't afford life, and life does not cost much, not really. We cannot afford to eat, we cannot afford to drink, and we cannot afford to make mistakes, because if we do we die. We don't have the capital to support ourselves, and those few who do, have to deal with the horror of watching their friends and family fall into absolute poverty as they cannot afford to help them.
We're waiting desperately for a great hand to pick us up out of the dirt because at the moment we are outnumbered by Fate herself, and so we close our eyes and pray. We have fought for too long, and have been brought to breaking point. We simply stand, heads down, and bear it. Our spirit has gone; we are defeated. After a valiant struggle of over fifteen years, we have been broken.
There is no will left, no spirit. Like a horse that has been beaten until it cannot fight anymore; we are the same, and, like that horse, we stand dusty, scarred and alone, with dried blood on our sides and lash marks along our flanks. Our ribs too stand out; our hide is also dull.
Our eyes are glazed, our throats are parched, and our knees struggle to support us so that westand with splayed legs to bear the brunt of the next beating, too dejected even to whimper...
This is my plea. The thought of picking ourselves up again is sickening; one can only take so many blows before oblivion is reached, and we are teetering on the rim of the bottomless void. One more push will be the end of us all...
There must be someone out there who can do something. There must be someone out there who cares! We are a destroyed nation, and the world sits back and watches, pretending they cannot hear our cries. I appeal to you all...

HELP US!
A 16 YEAR OLD ZIMBABWEAN.....
