2018-2019 Knights Sign-up Meeting

There will be an informational/sign-up meeting for boys interested in playing on the ECOB Knights high school/junior high basketball teams.  The meeting is for boys grades 6-12 and their parents.  It will be held at Eaton Church of the Brethren, in room 101, on Monday, October 8, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  We will be putting the pads on the walls immediately following the meeting.  Parents will need to sign medical forms and permission forms in order for players to be eligible to practice.  The first practice will be on Monday, October 15, 2018.  If you have questions contact Clif Martin at 937-456-5301.  Additional information,forms, and the game schedules can be found on the Navigation bar to the left.

 

Knights Basketball Clinic

The Knights boys basketball clinic will be July 25-27, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 6:00-8:30 p.m. on Friday.  You can print out the clinic registration form, youth release form, and emergency medical form below.   Turn them in to Coach Martin or Coach Miley by Sunday, July 8, 2018.  The cost of the clinic is $20 and includes a T-shirt.  Make checks payable to ECOB Basketball.  Contact Coach Martin with questions.

Knights Top Thunder in Final Game of the Season

On Monday, February 26, the ECOB Knights hosted the Tri-County Thunder from New Paris, Ohio.  The Knights jumped out to a 17-9 lead going into quarter two.  The Knights continued their offensive and defensive efficiency in the second quarter and took a 37-19 halftime lead over the Thunder.  The Knights faltered defensively in the third quarter and the Thunder cut the lead to 55-44 going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth quarter the Knights defense and offense were stellar and the Knights won their final game of the season by a score of 78-45.

The Thunder was led in scoring by Andrew Hernandez and Levy Shelly with 11 points each.  The Knights had a very balanced scoring attack and had four players score in double figures.  They were led by Nick Smith with 24 points, Jacob Denlinger with 18 points, Michael Watkins with 13 points, Brandon Hunt with 10 points, and Aaron Clark with 9 points.  The Knights were led on the boards by Nick Smith with 18 rebounds, Michael Watkins with 10 rebounds, Jacob Denlinger with 8 rebounds, and Aaron Clark with 5 rebounds.  Aaron Clark led the Knights with 8 assists while Jacob Denlinger and Michael Watkins added 4 assists apiece.

After starting the season with 3 wins and 9 losses, the Knights turned their season around by finishing with 8 wins in their last 9 games.  This brought their final record to 11 wins and 10 losses.

Knights Top Saints on Senior Night

On Monday, February 19, the ECOB Knights hosted the Miami Valley Saints.  In game one, the Saints JV jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and to a 42-9 halftime lead.  The third quarter was all Saints as they led 58-14 at the end of three quarters.  The Knights played a better fourth quarter before falling to the Saints by a final score of 78-26.

The JV Saints were led in scoring by Tyler Stemen with 20 points, Myles with 15 points, and Nate Whitman and Cameran Daniel with 10 points each.  The JV Knights were led in scoring by Josh Martin with 12 points.  Mason Filbrun and Jake George led the Knights with 5 rebounds apiece while David Cox gathered 4 rebounds. 

It was Senior Night for the Knights Varsity.  They honored seniors Jacob Denlinger, Brandon Hunt, and Michael Watkins between the two games.  In the varsity game, the Knights started quickly and held an 18-10 first quarter lead.  The Knights defense was once again stellar in the second quarter and they took a 31-17 lead to the locker room at the half.  The Knights added to their lead in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a 44-26 advantage.  The Knights then held on to avenge an earlier 13-point loss to the Saint by a final score of 51-36.

The Saints were led in scoring by Wes McFadden with 11 points.  The Knights were led by Brandon Hunt with 21 points and 5 rebounds and Michael Watkins with 14 points and 6 rebounds.  Nick Smith led the Knights on the boards with 8 rebounds and Aaron Clark led the Knights with 6 assists.

The Knights final game will be at home on February 26 against the Tri-County Thunder.

Eagles Soar to SWOCC Championship

On Saturday, February 17 the ECOB Knights played the Community Christian Eagles from Connersville, Indiana in the SWOCC Tournament Finals. 

The first half was tightly contested and the first quarter ended in a 9-9 tie.  Community Christian gained a slim three-point lead of 23-20 at the half.   The Eagles extended their lead to 39-30 in the third quarter.  In the end, the Eagles snapped the Knights six game winning streak and captured the league championship by a final score of 53-41.  T

The Eagles were led in scoring by Derek Briscoe with 20 points, Graylin Seeley with 12 points, and Dustin Seeley with 9 points.  The Knights were led by Brandon Hunt with 18 points and Michael Watkins with 11 points.  Nick Smith led the Knights with 8 rebounds, Michael Watkins added 7 rebounds, and Jacob Denlinger added 5 rebounds.  Aaron Clark and Jacob Denlinger had 3 assists apiece for the Knights.

The Knights will have Senior Night on Monday, February 19 when they host the Miami Valley Saints.

Knights Advance to SWOCC Finals

On Friday, February 16, the Knights hosted the Castine Cavaliers in the Semifinals of the Southwestern Ohio Christian Conference. 

The Knights jumped out to a 20-13 first quarter lead and increased the lead to 33-24 by the half.  The Knights increased their lead to 49-38 in the third quarter.   The Cavaliers cut the lead to 61-56 but the Knights were able to hold on for the victory.

The Cavaliers were led in scoring by Dylan Finkbine with 23 points and Cade Brubaker with 21 points.

The Knights offense was very balanced with four players in double figures.  The Knights were led by Brandon Hunt with 15 points, Jacob Denlinger and Michael Watkins with 13 points each, Nick Smith with 11 points, and Aaron Clark with 8 points.  Nick Smith and Michael Watkins led the Knights on the boards with 8 rebounds apiece while Grant Collins added 6 rebounds.  Jacob Denlinger added 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 assists.  Aaron Clark handed out 8 assists to lead the Knights.

The Knights will meet the Community Christian Eagles from Connersville, Indiana in the SWOCC Finals on Saturday, February 17.

Knights Conquer Germantown

On Monday, February 12, the ECOB Knights hosted the Germantown Christian Conquerors.  In game one, the Knights JV held a 12-6 first quarter lead only to see the Conquerors tie the score 20-20 by the half.  The Conquerors took the lead by a score of 27-24 by the end of the third quarter and held on for the victory by a final score of 42-34.

The JV Conquerors were led in scoring by Josh Benline with 18 points, Cole Ireland with 9 points, and Mionte Brown with 8 points.  The JV Knights were led in scoring by Rodney Christian and Lance Unger with 9 points apiece.  Mason Filbrun and Josh Martin led the Knights with 5 rebounds apiece while Jake George and Rodney Christian added 4 rebounds apiece.

In the varsity game, the Knights defense was once again the story of the game.  The Knights got off to an 11-7 first quarter lead and led 20-14 at halftime.  In the third quarter, the Knights offense erupted for 26 points and increased their lead to 46-27.  The Knights then held on in the fourth quarter for the 55-37 victory.

The Conquerors were led in scoring by Johnathan Begley with 11 points.  The Knights once again had three players score in double figures.  Michael Watkins scored 15 points, Jacob Denlinger scored 13 points, and Brandon Hunt scored 10 points.  The Knights were led on the boards by Aaron Clark with 6 rebounds and Grant Collins with 5 rebounds.  Aaron Clark and Jacob Denlinger led the Knights with 5 assists each and Brandon Hunt had 4 steals.

The Knights next host the Castine Cavaliers on Saturday, February 17.

Knights Split with Conquerors

On Friday, February 9, the ECOB Knights traveled to Miamisburg, Ohio to take on the Germantown Christian Conquerors.  In game one, the Knights JV gained a 9-6 lead in the first quarter.  The second quarter saw the Conquerors take a 19-17 lead.  The Conquerors stretched the lead to 29-19 by the end of the third quarter and held on in the fourth quarter for a 34-23 victory.

The JV Conquerors were led in scoring by Mionte Brown with 13 points and Cole Ireland with 8 points.  The JV Knights were led in scoring by Rodney Christian with 10 points and Mason Filbrun with 6 points.  Mason Filbrun, Lance Unger, and Josh Martin led the Knights with 5 rebounds apiece.  Lance Unger led the Knights with 3 steals.

In the varsity game, the two teams played very evenly in the first half.  The Conquerors held a slim 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Knights tied the game 24-24 going into the halftime break.  The Knights turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and led 43-34 by the end of the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter the Knights defense set the tone limiting Germantown to 5 points, and the Knights brought home the victory by a final score of 52-39.

The Conquerors were led in scoring by Johnathan Begley with 16 points and Cameron Williams with 10 points.  The Knights had three players score in double figures.  Brandon Hunt scored 17 points, Michael Watkins scored 15 points, and Nick Smith added 12 points.  The Knights were led on the boards by Nick Smith with 10 rebounds, Michael Watkins with 9 rebounds, and Brandon Hunt with 6 rebounds.  Aaron Clark led the Knights with 6 assists and 3 steals.

The Knights next host Germantown Christian on Monday, February 12.

Knights Outduel Sabers

On Monday, February 5, the ECOB Knights hosted the Dominion Academy Sabers.  In game one, the Knights JV jumped out to a 11-4 first quarter lead.  The Knights took a 15-10 lead to the locker room at the half.  The Knights offense grew stagnant in the second half and the Sabers took a 22-20 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Knights couldn’t find the basket in the fourth quarter and fell to the Sabers 31-20.

The JV Sabers were led in scoring by Matthew Holloway with 11 points and Wesley Taylor with 8 points.  The JV Knights were led by Rodney Christian with 9 points and Mason Filbrun with 8 points.  Mason Filbrun and Jake George led the Knights in rebounding with 7 rebounds each.  Rodney Christian had 6 rebounds while David Cox and Lance Unger added 5 rebounds apiece.  Rodney Christian led the Knights with 3 assists.

In the varsity game, the Knights were locked in on defense and took an 11-5 first quarter lead and led 23-15 at the half.  The Sabers cut the lead to 34-30 in the third quarter.  The Knights closed out strong and captured the victory by a final score of 50-37.

The Sabers were led in scoring by Noah Branham with 14 points and Alex Heerdt with 9 points.  The Knights were led by Brandon Hunt with 18 points, Michael Watkins with 15 points, and Jacob Denlinger with 9 points. The Knights were led in rebounding by Nick Smith with 8 rebounds while Jacob Denlinger and Michael Watkins pulled down 7 rebounds apiece.  Aaron Clark led the Knights with 4 assists and 4 steals.  

The Knights are next scheduled to play at Germantown Christian on Friday, February 9 in Miamisburg.

Knights Top the Thunder

On Saturday, February 3, the ECOB Knights traveled to New Paris to play the Tri-County Thunder.  The first half was very evenly played with the Thunder holding a 15-13 lead after one quarter and holding a 32-30 halftime lead over the Knights.  The Knights ratcheted up the defense in the third quarter to take a 40-34 lead into the fourth quarter.  The fourth quarter was all about offense as both teams scored 21 points and the Knights were able to hold on for the 61-55 victory.

The Thunder were led in scoring by Bradley Schaepp with 14 points, Levy Shelly with 12 points, and Peyton Cohee with 11 points.  The Knights were led in scoring by Michael Watkins with 26 points and Brandon Hunt with 13 points.  The Knights were led on the boards by Michael Watkins with 10 rebounds, while Jacob Denlinger and Grant Collins contributed 8 rebounds apiece.  Brandon Hunt and Nick Smith both pulled down 7 rebounds each for the Knights.  Jacob Denlinger led the Knights with 5 assists.

The Knights next host the Dominion Sabers on Monday, February 5.
