Educational Coalition for Hispanics in Oakland (ECHO) Five areas of involvement - STUDENTS BASED ACTIVITIES
-Latino Student Honor Roll ECHO /OUSD – an annual activity recognizing Latino student scholars and interfacing with Oakland Unified School District
-Provide Multicultural and Ethnic Studies classes -Advocacy for students at school site level -Provide recommendations to the OUSD school Board of Education and superintendent on how to better the education of Latino student. -Collect and analyze student educational data to share with parents and the community.
-Summer Projects 2012 Excursions Summer school Summer tutoring
- PARENT WORKSHOPS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
-Ongoing support for student learning by professional staff and presenters. -Multicultural awareness -Bilingual support for individual parents -Specific topic workshops addressing issues Latino parents and their families face in today’s society -Educational Conference for Parents and Community
- WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY
Participate and partner with other community based organizations, such as : -Unity Council -Centro Legal de La Raza -Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Alameda County -Spanish Speaking Citizens Foundation -The Oakland Museum -Oakland Unified School District -Consulado General de México en San Francisco -Peralta Collage
- SCHOLARSHIP OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT
-Inform parents & students about educational opportunities in the community -Work with Public and Independent schools to provide quality educational opportunities for students and their families -Maintain a system of parents and students interviews and selection process -Provide workshops to prepare students for placement in optimal learning circumstances -Follow ECHO students’ progress throughout their educational career -Provide information about scholarships and other learning opportunities -Develop a business community based scholarship program.
- ECHO FUNDING
-ECHO seeks donations, grants, and financial assistance for students and organizational activities held throughout the year
-ECHO welcomes any qualified assistance to develop its fundraising capacity
