About Counselling

Counselling is a process that can help you overcome personal difficulties and work towards positive change.  The aim is to provide you with a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space where you can openly and freely explore your thoughts and feelings and examine your behaviours. It is not about giving advice or telling you what to do.

Exploring both internal and external conflicts and looking into where these might come from can lead to insights, awareness and positive change.  You may also find that you increase your personal resilience and resourcefulness and that your quality of life improves as you cope more effectively by being able to make appropriate decisions and act on them accordingly.

Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually held on a weekly basis. The number of sessions required will depend upon the issue or problem you want to address – some issues can be resolved in a relatively short time (say, 6-12 sessions), others take longer. The length of time we work together would be something we would agree jointly and that we would review from time to time during therapy.
