Session 4 Class Descriptions

5-6

Training choir: The theme for our spring concert is "Pop and rock music through time". You will get youtube videos of all the songs to listen to before the session even starts, and the repertoire will drive the learning this semester. The songs are all in English and the rhythms and words fun and upbeat! The goal for kids in training choir is to get used to being in a big group and coordinate singing with movement. There are no reading skills required. Songs will be learned through movement, pictures and repetition. There is no homework, other than singing songs around the house! Our spring concert is May 14th, at 3pm.

Teachers: Sabine and Kara F

Storytelling 5-6: We're going to explore all the different ways in which we can tell stories: through illustration, photographs, words, performance, puppets, film, dance, music, and so on! We'll look at all these for inspiration, play lots of story-building games, and craft creative stories of our own!

Teacher: Lilli

How to turn your yard into a farm: We’ll explore ways to take any size piece of grass and turn it into a farm! It’s all hands on deck: making compost and growing our own worms, making our own soil blocks using a tool from England and planting seeds, touching the inside combs of a real Top Bar bee hive, comparing a live baby chick and baby gosling! Come see how you can create your own yard farm, no cows needed.

Teacher: Missy

Rock's 5-6 SCIENCE: Springs coming, and rock collections will begin.  In this class we will learn where rocks come from and what makes them different while we create and explore with hands on projects.

Teacher: Amenda

Art 4 for 5's & 6's: Art is fun!   To prove that we'll use  paints, oil pastels, pens & glitter to create art that teaches your child a bit about the artist of the day.  None of the projects from earlier in this year will be repeated.  I have a new set of lessons & a new set of paints!  Your kids are the artists and I'm excited about giving them the opportunity to explore different media and get messy in the process.

Teacher: Janie

Junior choir: The theme for our spring concert is "Pop and rock music through time". You will get youtube videos of all the songs to listen to before the session starts, so the kids can be familiar with the songs before the first week of co-op. In addition to the songs learned for the spring concert, which will be on May 14th at 3pm, we also learn silly songs and warm-up songs during chorus time. We will not use sheet music or words to learn the songs, but repetition, pictures and movement. Sometimes the kids will come up with their own movements, and we will start learning to sing in 2 parts with canons and partner songs. The goal in this class is to love singing!

Teachers: Sabine and Rachel
