Breeding for quality in health, temperament, and type in Canaans
Eastland Canaans began in April of 1993, with the purchase of our first Canaan “Hanna” from Donna Dodson. It didn’t take long for my family to know that this was the breed for us. We also realized that there was a strong need for the public to be educated and see this unique and wonderful breed. So we began showing in the eastern part of the US to educate and spread the word of the breed “canaan” not “canine” ;-)
We have become such advocates to Canaans because they represent what every family wants from their dog, which is, a dog that is loving, intelligent, and extremely loyal, while also being protective of their family. They have such a unique way of “expressing” themselves that you really feel as if they are trying to talk to you.
Because Canaans have meant so much to my family, I made the commitment to serve on the Canaan Dog Club of America(CDCA) Board of Directors(BOD), and serve as chair on several of the clubs committees. In addition, I was Show Chair for the 1996 CDCA Specialty (could that actually be 14 years ago!). I also belonged to and served on the BOD of the Southern Classic Canaan Dog Club. Our Canaans have competed in obedience and conformation. We have also trained in agility, herding, and tracking as time permits in my busy family life.
If there is one thing we want you to know about Canaans it is that while they can be a challenging breed, they can be great companions for your family. If you are interested in learning more about the breed and Eastland’s Canaans please contact us. You may find that joining the “Canaan family” is perfect for you and your family.
