Kris and I have really been going at this very unconventional build in the most conventional way possible. Whether it's financing or building approval we have been running around dotting the i's and crossing the t's. We have been working with a credit union to secure financing through a CMHC insured construction mortgage. Then there's the plans, first purchasing them from Earthship Biotecture, then working with a geotechnical and structural engineer to get things sealed before applying for building permits (yet another check mark we need). Don't forget about home insurance - we didn't - and after checking with probably dozens on insurance providers we have one who is working with us. All of these are preconditions to actually starting to build. Whew. So everything has built up to this moment when hopefully things will start to fall in place. Cross your fingers for us - the plans are currently paused at the geotechnical side of things. From the time of getting the engineers seal we will have 2 weeks for building permits... now things are looking like mid-June. Wish us luck!
