Background

EARD-CI was created by two Tanzanian women who wanted to help local families improve their lives

Dr. Jerome and her long-time friend and former student Edith realized that the women of Tengeru needed access to capital to pull themselves up out of poverty and provide for their families. They pooled their personal funds to begin providing micro-loans to groups of women in the community. Demand for micro-loans quickly outstripped supply and they began to approach foundations and other NGOs for additional funding.  Dr. Jerome and Edith share a strong commitment to improving the lives of rural families through affordable credit, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and health care.
