Eaglettes' year ends; Early turnovers hurt in region quarterfinals

MURFREESBORO -- Shelbyville Central's season came to an end with a 64-37 loss to sixth-ranked Oakland on the road in the quarterfinals of the Region 4-AAA Tournament on Monday night.

The Lady Patriots (24-6) will face Tullahoma (19-8) in the semifinals on Wednesday at Smyrna High School.




Eaglettes win; share 8-AAA regular season title

Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes cruised past visiting Lincoln County to claim a 57-36 victory and finish in a two-way tie with Lawrence County as regular season District 8-AAA champions on Friday night.

The Eaglettes (18-8, 10-2 8-AAA) and Lawrence County each had two district losses, but the Lady Wildcats will be the top seed in the upcoming district tournament, with Shelbyville Central the No. 2 seed.

Both will have an opening round bye and play in the semifinals on February 14 in Tullahoma against teams to be determined.


Felts Leads Strong 2nd Half for SC

MANCHESTER -- After a slow start, Shelbyville Central pulled away in the second half to claim a 56-36 victory over host Coffee County in a District 8-AAA matchup on Friday night. Surging Eaglettes end Lawrence Co. win streak

The District 8-AAA race just got a little tighter after Shelbyville Central claimed a 65-59 win to hand Lawrence County its first District 8-AAA loss on Homecoming night at SCHS.

The Golden Eaglettes (16-7, 7-2 8-AAA) have now won eight games in a row and 13 of their last 15. Lawrence County (19-4, 8-1 8-AAA) remains atop the district, but it's setting up to be a close race down to the final regular-season game.

Eaglettes net sixth-straight, dominate Columbia

A productive offense backed by steady defensive performance topped off by a dominate effort on the boards led to Shelbyville Central's 61-45 victory over visiting Columbia Central in a District 8-AAA matchup on Friday evening.

The Eaglettes (14-7, 5-2 8-AAA) have now won six straight games and 11 of their last 13.

It was Shelbyville Central's second win this season over the Lady Lions (7-11, 1-6 8-AAA).

Shelbyville Central placed three players scoring in double figures, only allowed 15 points combined in the second and third quarters and hauled in 42 rebounds, 21 offensive and 21 defensive in the double-digit win.

Shelbyville Girls Volunteer at Local Children's Carnival

Over the weekend members of the Eaglette basketball team spent their free time helping the youth of Bedford County enjoy their last few hours of freedom prior to the start of the new school year.

The Back-to-School Blowout was held in the old Walmart parking lot on Madison.

Activities included bouncy houses, face painting and a dunk booth.

Youth from vacation bible schools thoughout the county were on hand.

A good time was had by all.

TULLAHOMA -- A poor night shooting the basketball, particularly at the free throw line, led to Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes 44-41 loss to Tullahoma in the semifinals of the District 8-AAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Tullahoma High School.

The second-seed Eaglettes (19-10) face fourth-seed Lincoln County in the consolation game on Thursday at 6 at Tullahoma High School.

Many close games are won and lost at the free throw line and that was the case for the Shelbyville Central.

SMYRNA -- The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes stepped outside of district play on Monday night and traveled to Smyrna in a final tuneup before finishing the district slate.

Though Shelbyville (16-8) got solid numbers from To'Nesha Allison and Romny Felts, the Eaglettes came up short on the road and fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 64-50.


Eaglette payback time; Central punishes Tullahoma for earlier defeat

TULLAHOMA -- The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes got a little revenge by claiming a 50-44 victory over host Tullahoma in a key District 8-AAA matchup on Tuesday night.

The victory sets up a huge matchup with the Eaglettes (15-7, 6-2 8-AAA) and district-leading Lawrence County (19-3, 8-0 8-AAA) on Friday night at 6 for Shelbyville Central's Homecoming.

Eaglettes halt Lincoln Co.

FAYETTEVILLE -- After a close first half, Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes took control of the game in the third quarter on the way to a 58-47 win at Lincoln County in a District 8-AAA matchup on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Falcons held a 12-10 advantage at the end of the first stanza and took a 28-25 lead into halftime.

It was in the third quarter when the Eaglettes made their move, starting the second half with a 9-2 run while outscoring Lincoln County 22-6 in the third period to take a 47-34 lead into the fourth quarter.


Eaglettes take over in 2nd half

WINCHESTER -- What was a fairly close game in the first half turned out to be a blowout as Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagletes rolled past Franklin County in a District 8-AAA matchup on the road Friday night.

The Eaglettes (12-7, 3-2 8AAA) scored 47 points in the second half, many coming in transition after creating turnovers.

"We really played well on defense and were able to convert some turnovers into points on offense," Central coach Kevin Thomas said. "We kind of started slow in the first half but I am very pleased with the way we played in the second half.
