Roychester Park

  • History: The Straub family has been maintaining the gardens near the community house for over 20 years. For their efforts, they received the township's Robert J. Montgomery Award for environmental leadership. to help cleanup the Sandy Run creek area where the creek leaves Roychester Park. Volunteers help cleanup litter and remove invasive exotic vines and weeds, such as porcelainberry and oriental bittersweet. 
    • In 2013, Girl Scout volunteers cleaned up trash, planted 6 trees and spread native wildflower seeds in the riparian buffer.  ASHS volunteers removed invasive plants and weeded and mulched the flower gardens.
    • In 2012, 17 volunteers cleaned up 5 pounds of trash from 5 acres, serviced trees and gardens, and removed invasive vines.
    • In October 2011, 30 volunteers planted over 120 trees and shrubs to create a streamside buffer to help reduce flooding, pollution and erosion, thanks to a grant from TreeVitalize.
