DFWC Monthly Minutes--September 2015
The September meeting of the Dyersville Federated Woman's Club was held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the St. Francis Xavier School art room. This was the first meeting for the 2015-2016 program. Peggy Keegan presented a technology overview showing club members how to download apps. Members downloaded two apps. OverDrive app is used to access online books from public libraries. Members also downloaded the photo app from Hartig Drug, allowing people to download photos to cloud storage plus printing services.
The regular meeting was called to order at 8:00 PM, with the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes from the May meeting were reviewed. New program books were handed out. The Treasurer's report was reviewed. Members were reminded to pay their dues for the year.
--A thank you note was received from Special Olympics for our donation.
--A thank you from the Dyersville Commercial Club was received for our donation and volunteers at the July 3rd celebration.
--F&M Bank sent a note in regard to the club's planting of a tree at Dyersville Elementary School.
--Correspondence was received from the Dyersville Health Foundation. The club voted to purchase tickets at $150/couple to their Fall Dinner and chose a member to represent the club at the dinner.
--Project Concern sent correspondence about their foster grandparent program. Members asked about the possibility of having Project Concern talk to the club at a later date.
--The Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce asked for volunteers to help at the Team of Dreams at the Field of Dreams to be held on September 19. Various shifts and positions are available, including some at the Rec Center.
--The DACC also is hosting a BOB (Battle of the Businesses) on September 17 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
In Call of Business:
--We can no longer use the Community Room at the Dyersville Commercial Club for our monthly meetings. Various places to hold our meetings were discussed.
--Hostesses are still needed for some of the monthly meetings. Discussion took place on the roles of hostesses and if the club may want to change how we do refreshments.
--An Adventures in Reading chairman is needed for this year.
--The pecan list from Women's Night was passed around for members to choose people to phone for orders.
--Members are to take orders for pecans and bring the total numbers for what they sell to the October meeting. Bags are $10 each with a large variety available. The form is available on the club website.
--A volunteer is needed to store the pecans once they arrive.
--Bingo: The club sponsors Bingo at Oak Crest Manor throughout the year. The last time was on July 29. Upcoming dates are September 24 and November 23. Volunteers are always welcome.
--The MississippiValley Regional meeting will be held on September 23 in Bismarck, North Dakota. Betty Wade will be attending. The club voted to give Betty $200 to help with expenses.
--Gayle Lehmkuhl, District Director, will do a painting class. Members are asked to bring prospective new members. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30 PM at the Dyersville Social Center (old WD kindergarten building). Members are asked to bring either a snack or a bottle of wine.

DFWC Monthly Minutes--May 2015
The May meeting of the Dyersville Federated Woman's Club was held on Tuesday, May 5, at the Dyersville Commercial's Oak Garden Community Room. Fifteen members were in attendance.
An end of year dinner was held. J and D Mart catered the meal. Hostesses were Joan B., Bev S., and Betty W.
A meeting was held after dinner, being called to order by President Bette K. at 7:10 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Lue presented the treasurer's report. Dues for next year are now due. Dues are $30 and be paid to Lue B.
Correspondence from the Dyersville Elementary Read and Run program was read. The members voted to donate $50.00 to this event which will be held on May 14th. A letter from Dyersville Progress Adult Special Olympics was received alking for a donation. Members voted to give $50.00 to them. Relay for Life will be held in August. Each year the club donates $100, as this was also approved. Tree planting was held at the Dyersville Elementary for the tree donated by the club. The cost for the tree was $7.00 more than expected. The members voted on the increase.
A thank you to the ladies who help out with Bingo at Oak Crest Manor. Those included are Shirley R., Marlene M., Gladys K., Judy G., and three others. Twenty-three residents played Bingo on April 9th.
Program ideas for next club season and hostesses are needed. If interested please phone or contact Bette K. The Adventure in reading Report was read. A pecan list from Women's Night Out was shared. Dave Nebel, president of the the Commercial Club would like members to volunteer at the annual July 3rd fireworks. Members are urged to help out at this event. The club voted to donate $100 towards the fireworks.
In Federation news, the state convention was recently held in Marshalltown. Three club members attended. Awards received by the club included CPR (Communications and Public Relations) and Public Issues (silver--for our donation to the USO and other projects for servicemen). The legislative clout handout was received. It outlines the things the clubs have pushed for throughout the years. Members can sign up for legislative alerts. A GFWC timeline was also available.
Discussion will held in the fall about scholarships given by the club.

DFWC Monthly Minutes--April 2015
The April meeting of the Dyersville Federated Woman's Club was held on Tuesday, April 7, at the Dyersville Commercial Club"s Oak Garden. Mark Murphy spoke to the group about the Dubuque County Smart 911 System. As manager of the system, he works closely with the Sheriff's Department. The service allows people to add additional information, such as medical information, to 911. This is particularly useful if one uses a cell phone as a primary phone. All information provided is secure and only seen by dispatchers if an emergency call is placed.
The monthly meeting was called to order at 7:40 PM. There were no changes to last month's minutes and Lue B. gave the treasurer's report. Correspondence was received from the JKPL thanking us for donating a basket for their recent fundraiser. They also sent information on the Love My Library Giving Tree fundraiser. There was also correspondence from the Dyersville Health Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce.
In new business, the members voted to donate $100 for a tree to be planted at Dyersville Elementary School toward the end of April by the fourth graders. Pat McCarthy, an area Master Gardener, will coordinate this. This will work in conjunction with the 125th Anniversary of GFWC. Volunteers are needed to help judge this year's Woman of the Year, which will announced at Women's Night Out on April 23. The DFWC will have a booth at this event.

There will also be an open house on April 11th in Manchester in the afternoon at the Hughes House celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Federation.

DFWC Monthly Minutes--March 2015
The monthly meeting of the GFWC/IOWA Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, March 3, at the Dyersville Commercial Club’s Oak Garden. Tracy Deutmeyer presented a program titled “Time Out for You.” Members make Sugar Scrubs and Eye Pillows as part of this informational program.
The monthly meeting was called to order at 8:00 by President Bette Kuboushek. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and minutes of the February meeting were read and approved, as was the Treasurer’s report.
Correspondence from the Dyersville Health Foundation was read. The club voted to give $100 to the organization for future needs. A letter from the Post-Prom Committee at Beckman Catholic High School was received. A $25 donation was made to this event. A letter was also received from Heifer International asking for a donation, but members decided that since a donation was recently sent, no action would be taken at this time.
The club members brought items to the meeting that will be put together to make a basket for the James Kennedy Public Library’s basket auction. The club will also have an entry in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. It was also decided to again sponsor a booth at Women’s Night Out on April 22.
The Iowa State Convention will be held on April 24-25 in Marshalltown. The club will purchase an ad in the convention program commemorating the local club’s 85th anniversary. Other upcoming events include the NE District meeting on October 3 in Jesup along with a GFWC record book celebrating 125 years.
The Club Collect was read and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30, followed by a social. Hostesses were Donna Kramer and Tess Milligan. The next meeting will be on April 7th. The program on the night will be “How you and your home can become more technology friendly.”

Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club Kick-off Meeting
September 3, 2014
The night’s program speaker was Amy Ries from Promised Land Winery, Millville IA. She gave a presentation on the history of their winery, their upcoming grape harvest, and how to select a wine to complement pork, beef, poultry and desserts. Two red wines and four white wines of varying sweetness and dryness, were tasted by the 26 members present.
The meeting was called to order by President Bette Kuboushek at 8:00 PM. Introduction of the officers followed: Patti Bell vice president, Nikki Rahe secretary, and Janie Ament for Lou Bockenstedt as treasurer. Introductions of all members present then occurred. The new 2014-2015 booklets were distributed to members. The newly added pages were reviewed: the page for books read and the page for volunteer hours. Also discussed was a review of the club’s meeting dates--the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00PM at the Oak Garden Meeting Room.
New Business: Pecans. The only Woman’s Club Fundraiser, selling pecans, was discussed. All varieties of pecans are being sold: regular pecans, chocolate covered, caramel clusters, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and glazed. All are priced at $10 per bag. Orders need to be turned in at the October 7th meeting. Heidi Huisman chairs the pecan orders. Pecans will be delivered in early November. Members also chose names to phone from the Women’s Night list of people who wanted pecans. Anyone wishing to order pecans can do so by contacting Nikki Rahe at 875-8629. Businesses that sell the pecans are: Mercy Hospital Gift Shop, Loey’s, Konrardy’s, and the Prescription Shoppe.
State and District Meetings: any member wishing to attend either of these meetings, contact Bette Kuboushek. The first is the NE District Federated Woman’s Club Meeting in Maquoketa on Sat., Sept 20 and the second is the Mississippi Valley Federated Woman’s Club Meeting for states IA, MN, MO, KS, ND, SD, and NE on Sept. 24, 25, and 26 in Bloomington, MN.
Donna Kramer will attend the Dyersville Health Foundation Fundraiser Dinner on Wed., Sept 17, at the Commercial Club Park representing the DFWC.
A Reader’s Digest book end cut out in the shape of an alphabet letter, can be purchased for $15. Bette Kuboushek has the information.

Dyersville Federated Woman's Club
The May meeting of the DFWC was held on May 6, 2014 at the community room of the Dyersville Commercial Club. This was the final meeting of our club until September. Donna V. and Patti B. served as hostesses. Gayle Lehmkuhl the Northeast District Director from Fairbanks, Iowa was also in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM. Gayle L. spoke to the club about shop.com and how it benefits non-profits such as our club.

In new business:
In correspondence, a letter was received from the Western Dubuque, Dyersville Elementary School 2nd Annual Read and Run Event. There are various levels of donations. Motion was made to donate $50 by Donna V. and seconded by Donna K. The motioned passed by vote of the club members present.
Correspondence was received from the Maria House in Dubuque asking for a donation. No action was taken on this request as the members voted to table this until the September meeting.
A letter was received from the Special Olympics organization asking for a one-time donation. Rita H. motioned to donate $50, which was seconded by Donna K. The motioned passed by vote of the club members present.
Mt. Hope Cemetery board wrote a letter of thanks to the club for our previous donation.
Club members in attendance discussed changes in how members will be contacted about upcoming meetings. Kari W. has volunteered to set up a list of members who would like to receive information via text. Bev S. volunteered to assist her as needed.
Three people volunteered to audit the club's checkbook: Karen B., Donna V., and Marlene M.
The club voted to donate $100 to the Dyersville Relay for Life. This was already in the club's budget for the year.
Discussion was held concerning programs for the upcoming year as well as hostess sign-up.
In old business, Nancy B. will contact members this summer to help sew items for the Sew for Shelters program.
Correspondence from GFWC/Iowa News and Notes was passed around for members to see.
The GFWC/Iowa State Convention was held in April in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Bette K. and Betty W. from our chapter attended. Betty W. was elected President Elect at this meeting.
The Delhi GFWC is celebrating its 100 year anniversary on May 22 at the Bailey's Ford Park shelter. All members are invited to attend this event.
Out going officers were honored: President Nancy B., Vice-president Bette K., Treasurer Janie A., and Secretary Deb B. New officers were welcomed: President Bette K., Vice-president Patti B., Treasurer Lu B., and Secretary Nikki R.

Dyersville Federated Woman's Club
The April meeting of the DFWC was held on April 8, 2014 at the community room of the Dyersville Commercial Club. The evening started with a presentation by Kurt Kramer from the Dubuque County Conservation Society. He gave an overview of the facilities they manage and what services they provide for the citizens of the county.
The meeting was called to order at 7:48 PM. The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. Correspondence from the Dyersville Chamber of Commerce was received and passed around for members to read. Thank-you notes were received from the Mt. Hope Cemetery board and Brandon W., one of the recipients of our scholarships. Bette K. read the treasurer's report.
In old business, a report was heard from the ladies who worked at the DFWC booth at the chamber's Women's Night Out that was held on April 2. Some pecans were sold at this event. Coupons were also collected for soldiers in the military by Lu B.
In new business, the next community blood drive will be held on May 1. Volunteers are needed and can call Shirley P. if they can help with this event. Scholarship forms are being turned into Nancy B. and a committee has been formed to select the recipients. Officers for 2014-2016 were voted on. Bette K. will be next year's President, Patti B. will serve as Vice-President (motion by Donna K., second by Rita H.), Nikki R. will be Secretary (motion by Bev S., second by Krystal R.), and Lu B. will be the club's Treasurer (motion by Joan B., second by Judy W.).
Tim P. is a former citizen from Dyersville who is currently serving with the military in Afghanistan. He will be deployed until August. Members are asked to bring items to send to him and his unit to the May meeting. A list of these items will be emailed to members.
The GFWC Clubwoman Magazine, GFWC News and Notes fro March and April, and the GFWC/Iowa State Convention information were passed around for members to view. Information and forms for the convention were also available. It will be held in Fort Dodge on April 24-26.
There are still pecans available for sale. Price is $10/bag with a few different types available.
The next meeting of the DFWC will be held on Tuesday, May 6. Meeting time and place will be announced. Installation of next year's officers will take place at this meeting.

DFWC Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club
March 4th 2014 Month Minutes
The program began with a informative presentation by Chelsea Ellingson from the March of Dimes. Their mission is to help babies. There are two main events to raise money. One is March for Babies, Dubuque has a walk/run in April and Manchester has one in May in 2014. The other is a fall event called Signature Chief auction. They have food tasting and an auction to raise money. All of these events have an Ambassador Family.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 14 members present. Hostesses were Kari Wittmeyer and Rita Helle. Deb Brunsmann read the February minutes and was approved as is. There was no Treasures report at Janie was not able to attend.
Correspondence: Dyersville’s Women’s Night will be held Wednesday, April 2nd at the Total Fitness Rec. Center Gym, from 6-9 PM. Karen Bell, Rose Miesch and Bette Kuboushek will work at the event. Received a thank you from Carma Bisinger, GFWC/Iowa Finance Chairman for our donation to the $100.00 club. The Dyersville Area Chamber newsletter was also pasted for all to review.
Old Business: Coupons for soldiers will be turned in at the April meeting. Lu Bockenstedt will collect. Some changes are coming, they will be changing the length of time the coupons can be expired and we only need to sort in two categories. Will discuss the changes to see if we will continue due to the expiration date change. Nancy has the signs for the St. Pat’s parade and Rita purchased the candy.
New Business: Need to vote for a new VP, secretary, and treasurer to make it official. VP - Patti Bell, Secretary - Nikki Rahe, and Treasure – Lu Bockenstedt. We did not have enough at the meeting to vote on this, will have to do at the next meeting. Bev Sheston started a discussion in regards to the calling list. Would like to do more with E:mail or texting. Kari Wittmeyer passed a paper for everyone present to put their email and cell phone number hoping people will respond quicker this way then the current way we’re doing it.
Federation News: GFWC News and Notes for February and Dyersville Health Foundation Newsletters were passed for all to read. The GFWC/Iowa State Convention will be in Fort Dodge on April 24th – April 26.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 1st.

February 2, 2014 Meeting Minutes
The program began with Sue Engelbrecht speaking on heart health. She spoke of prevention and keeping good heart health. Everyone should know heir numbers’, she passed out 2 papers and 4 booklets and noted a good book called Eat, Move & Sleep by Tom Reth.
The meeting was called to order by Nancy Burkle at 7:45 PM. Minutes were approved as is. The ladies were to wear red, bring coupons for soldiers and bring travel size products for the Shelter project. There were 20 members present.
The following helped with bingo on Jan. 23rd. Gladys Knepper, Kay Tauke, and Judy Geistkemper. The next three times for bingo are July 3rd, Sept. 18th, and Nov. 20th 2014.
Mount Hope Cemetery endowment request: We gave $25.00 this year.
Dyersville Layettes sent a thank you for items donated. In 2013 sent 225 complete layettes. Majority went to Mercy and Finley Hospital. Also sent to Clarity Clinic, Birthright, Heart of Iowa Drug Abuse Center, St. John’s Lutheran church, a few foster parents homes, and our local food pantry.
Janie Ament gave the treasurers report. Talked about Heifer International water buffalo donating $250.00 which is in the budget and will send them a check.
Scholarship: Janie will be writing out checks and mailing to the 2012-2013 recipients. They were Jessica Brehm, Brandon Walls, Bernadett Brehm and Cody J. Reimer.
New Business: Judy Geistkemper is in charge of attending the St. Pat’s Parade this year. Rita Helle will pick up the candy. Last year they spent $25.00, Krystal Rahe motion to increase to $40.00, seconded by Rita Helle.
New officers for 2014-2015 will be, President, Bette Kuboushek, Vice President will be Patti Bell, Secretary, Nikke Rahe, and Treasure, Lu Bockenstedt.

The November meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Women’s Club was held Nov. 13th at 7:00 P.M. at the Dyersville Commercial Club Park Oak Gardens meeting room. There were 28 members in attendance. Thank you to Judy Welling for organizing the tray favors for Oak Crest.
President Nancy Burkle called the meeting to order at 7:11 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes from the September meeting were read. There were no changes needed. All members present introduced themselves to inform everyone who the new and current members are.
Correspondence: The following items passed for all to read: The Dyersville Chamber Newsletters from October and November, A thank you from Scholarship recipient Hunter Westhoff, information on “Geek the Library” program at the James Kennedy Public Library, an invitation from “An Attitude of Gratitude, and a thank you from Tess Milligan.
Janie Ament gave the treasurer’s report. Beginning balance was $1,308.19, less a check of $1,377.00 for membership fees, and deposits of $289.33. The ending balance was $220.57.
Committee Reports: Shirley Pirc requested and received volunteers to hand out flyers for the blood drive, the calling committee, and to work the day of the blood drive.
Nancy Burkle will send out transcript reminder letter to recipients of the Scholarships by Dec. 15th.
Need to have your Adventure in Reading form in to Karen Kramer by Dec. 1st.
Old Business: Coupons for the soldiers were turned in to Lu Bockenstedt. They will be turned in again at the February and May meetings.
Recycling Scotch tape dispensers: Vicki Meyer will be the Chairperson for Recycling Scotch tape dispensers. Kay Tauke, Shirley Rahe, Nikki Rahe, will help make the bags and have them ready for the January meeting.
Pecan Sales: Betty Wade ordered 72 cases of which 80 bags are left and available to sell. They are available at the Hair Pantry, The Prescription Shoppe, Konrady Florist and from Betty Wade. We have been selling pecans since 1956. Some of the top sellers were Heidi Huisman, Joan Nurre, and Jean Demmer.
Membership Committee: Betty Wade thanked the membership committee for their great job with the October membership meeting. New members are Mary P, Lori, Rita Helle, Karen Bell, Joan Bockenstedt, Marian Brunkan, Shirley Rahe, Carla Jasper, and Joan Esch. Thanks again to Wilma Rausch for letting us meet at the Oak Gardens meeting room. Betty Wade informed us of Karen Wolhers illness, cards to her would be appreciated. A motion from Donna Kramer was made to purchase a religious item for approx. $30.00 for Karen, it was seconded by Vicki Meyer.
Pinwheels: Nancy Burkle will be purchased the Pinwheels for Domestic Violence Awareness. We will display them in the flower garden by the entrance of the Dyersville Commercial Club Park..
New Business: Sew For Shelters program was discussed. Looks like a great idea, may do this in May.
Letter from Dyersville Progress Adult Special Olympics was discussed, we will table this until the January meeting when we have a better idea of what is in the budget.
Heide Huisman received a letter from the Food Pantry. We will donate $100.00 which was in the budget for the Food Pantry. Was also suggested to bring a can good or other product for the Food Pantry to the December meeting.
Heide Huisman was also contacted by Oak Crest regarding the 5 gifts for 5 women for $5.00 progam. This is also in the budget for $30.00 and was agreed to this do again this year.
Federation News: The following correspondence were past for all to review. GFWC New and Notes from October and November, GFWC/Iowa Federation of Women’s Club – Third Annual NE District Convention, and “Because I am a Girl” a GFWC/Iowa President’s special emphasis project, held on October 11, 2012.
The next meeting will be Dec. 4th for our Christmas party. We will meet at Oak Crest for Christmas caroling then go out to eat which is to be determined yet.

GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club
September 4, 2012
The September meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tues. Sept. 4th. We met at FarmTek at 6:00 with a very informative and interesting tour given by Sam Shroyer, the Greenhouse Manager. After the tour, we moved to the Dyersville Commercial Club Park Oak Gardens meeting room. There were 24 members in attendance.
President Nancy Burkle called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance being recited. Minutes from the May meeting were read and approved.
Correspondence: The Dyersville Chamber Newsletter was passed for all to review. A thank you from Diane Schuster was read for the memorial we gave for the passing of her mother. The GFWC Endorsed (Flower Power) Fundraiser information was sent around for all to read. Janie Ament presented a letter from Beckman High School regarding the Beckman Gala fundraiser to be held Oct. 13th. No action was taken.
Janie Ament gave the treasurer’s report. We have a balance of $1,668.72 of which $1,215 will be paid out for dues by Oct. 15th.
Committee Reports: Shirley Pirc reported the Red Cross blood drive held May 7th was a big success, 103 pints were drawn and had to turn some away. The next blood drive will be Dec 11th.
Pecans last year were $8.69 a bag, the club made $.31 per bag. A motion was made to raise the price per bag to $10.00 by Vickie Meyer was seconded by Krystal Rahe. Betty Wade will make a list of projects our club is able to help with the money we raise. She will send to everyone via email. Date to have pecan orders turned in by is Oct. 16th. Remember to turn in 1 check for your orders.
Old Business: Coupons for our service men and women will be collected again. Lu Bockenstedt was named chairman to keep track of the coupons. As last year, when turning in coupons, have separated in categories of baby, food, non-food and health. They will be turned in at our Nov. Feb. and May meetings.
New Business: Dyersville Health Foundation: A motion by Shirley Pirc was made to purchase 2 dinner tickets for $125.00 for this event. Was seconded by Donna Vaske. All member names were entered into a drawing to win these tickets. Lu Bockenstedt won the drawing.
Pinwheel - Domestic Violence Awareness: Donna Vaske moved to purchase 192 pinwheels for $86.00, was seconded by Joyce Lansing. Was discussed where to display the pinwheels. Will display in one area to draw more attention and have a sign so people know what it’s for.
Membership Committee: Oct. 16th is the membership Drive. Was decided to have wine and cheese this year. Betty Wade is the Chairperson of the membership committee. A list was passed to sign up to be on the committee for the new membership drive.

Trivia Night is Oct 5th and Attitude of Gratitude is Nov. 17th. It was decided to pass this year to help, as last year was very unorganized.
Our new programs are very nice, however they missed the last part of the Club Collect. Bette Kuboushek will get in touch with Heritage Printing regarding this. The bill of $121.53 was given to Janie Ament.
Federation News: The following were passed around for the members to review. GFWC/Iowa Clubwoman magazine, GFWC News and Notes, GFWC/Iowa International Outreach, GFWC/Iowa Trifold and letter from the President.
The NE District Convention is Oct. 5th in Manchester. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 26th. It will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. There will be lunch at the First Lutheran Church and a tour of Phyllis Hughes home will end the convention. Registration is from 8:15 to 9:00. The cost is $11.00 per person.
Items to Bring to NE Convention: Can donate if you attend or not. Instead of door prizes please have Clubs and members collect can goods or paper product to be given to the Food Banks of Dubuque and Delaware Counties. All Scotch Tape Brigade plastic to be recycled Any gift cards for Domestic Violence shelters or other donations you want to give to other program areas, like ‘Shot at Life’ Books to sell, buy and reread, this is fundraiser for a District project.
Our club will make the nametags for the district convention. Nancy Burkle will make nametags. If needed, she will ask for assistance.
The Mississippi Valley Regional Conference is in Wichita, KS on Sept. 27th - 29th. Betty Wade, State Membership chairman and Bette Kuboushek, State Communications and Publication Relations chairman will attend. Registration is due Sept 10th. A motion to pay $100.00 for each to be paid after the pecan money is collected.

GFWC/Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club

The May meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, May 1st at the Dyersville commercial Club Oak gardens meeting room with 18 members in attendance. We enjoyed a pot luck dinner.
We had a new member present, Renee Fendell. All members introduced themselves and how many years they have been a member.
Minutes from the April meeting were approved by Mary Jo Goldsmith, seconded by Joyce Lansing.
Correspondence: We received a thank you from the Dubuque and Waverly domestic violence who received donations from us for $200.00 each. A thank you was received from Donna Flint for making the convention a great success. Read a letter from Cookie Scherman appreciating the donation given to the Food Pantry.
Treasurers Report was given with a closing balance of $268.93.
Betty Wade was the highest bid of $50.00 for a silver plated coffee, creamer and sugar set. The club approved to spend $30.00, Betty picked up the bal. Lou Boeckenstedt made a motion to pay Betty back the $20.00 to keep the set with the club, Nikki Rahe second the motion.
Blood Drive is May 7th. Reminder for people on the calling committee to call the people on the list and for those scheduled to work that day.
Scholarship: Judy Woods, Nancy Burkle and Betty Wade reviewed and choose 4 reciprocates of the scholarships.
Women’s Night: Bette Kuboushek and Betty Wade manned the booth. They have a list of names for pecan sales next fall.
Coupons were turned in.
International Convention will be in North Carolina this year. They are asking for a donation of $25.00 from each club in Iowa. Heidi Huisman motioned to donate the $25.00, Joan Nurre second the motion.
New Business: Was asked if we should donate something to the Commercial Club Park for use of the meeting room. It was mentioned to purchase a brick with GFWC on it. Janie Ament will check into this and talk more about this at our next meeting.
Heidi Huisman reminded us to show our membership card if staying at a Holiday Inn North West to get a reduced rate.
Member pins: Thought of each member purchasing a member pin. Some clubs add the cost of the pin with the membership dues.
State convention: Janie Ament was awarded for most new members. We received a number of other awards. Decoration were great.
Pecans were available for sell.
Membership dues are due.

The April meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Dyersville Commercial Club Oak Gardens meeting room with 28 members in attendance. Linda Nightingale from The Prescription Shoppe was our guest speaker.
President Betty Wade called the meeting to order at 7:50 with the Pledge of Allegiance being recited. A Thank you was received from Deb Brunsman for the memorial gift from the club in memory of her brother. The March minutes were read with one correction noted with the Scholarship deadline being corrected to April 3rd.
Correspondence: The Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce newsletter was shared. The USO letter was shared with a request for a donation. Linda Nightingale made a motion for a $10 donation, seconded by Nikki Rahe. The Dyersville Health Foundation request for a donation was read, with agreement that no donation would be made.
The Treasurer’s report was given with a balance on hand of $595.83 on hand.
Red Cross: A sign up sheet for volunteers for the May 7th blood drive was passed around. Posters were made available for members to take with them to post. Our schedule for the Red Cross blood drives has some changes and are as follows:

Post Prom Party: A motion by Lu Bockenstedt was made to donate $25 to Beckman High School, seconded by Janie Ament. If a request is received from Western Dubuque High School, a donation of $25 will then be made to them.
Scholarship: Applications are due by April 3rd for the 4 scholarships our club will award of $500 each to be awarded to 2 Western Dubuque and 2 Beckman High School seniors. Nancy Burkle is gathering the applications and will be reviewing with the Scholarship committee to choose the recipients.
The annual Women’s Night sponsored by the Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce is April 11th. Our club will have a table manned by Betty Wade and Bette Kuboushek with a poster promoting the Woman’s Club, a sign up sheet for pecan orders and recipes to pass out. If any members have recipes they would like to submit, email your recipe to Bette Kuboushek prior to the event.
Our club had a van drive by Bette Kuboushek in the St. Pat’s Parade and candy was distributed.
The Pinwheels project for child abuse has been tabled for this year and will be considered for 2013.
State Convention is April 19th and 20th at Cedar Falls with meetings beginning at 9:30 AM each day. The deadline to sign up is April 12th. Janie Ament will be receiving an award for Member recruitment. A sample of the table decorations our club will be creating, with the assistance of Janelle Deutmeyer for the Domestic Violence luncheon, Gala Night and Installation of officers dinner was shared with the members. Volunteers will meet on April 12th at the Oak Gardens meeting room at 3:30 to work on these decorations. Approximately 10 silver trays and coffee sets from the State office will be available at the silent auction at the convention. A motion was made by Nancy Burkle and seconded by Donna Kramer to spend up to $30 on an item for our club.
New business: A suggestion was made to purchase a tape recorder for use at our meetings to assist the secretary with minutes. If a digital recorder would be used, the meeting could be available from our website. Betty Wade will check on a recorder that she has that might be able to be used to record meetings. A suggestion was made to announce who makes a motion and who seconds motions at our meetings for purpose of minutes being taken.
A membership letter from the Dyersville Historical Society was shared with members. A motion was made by Krystal Rahe and seconded by Janelle Deutmeyer for a $25 membership donation.
President Betty Wade stated that changes are being considered for the Calling Committee that may be instituted in May. The $30 Membership dues for 2012-2013 may be paid at the May meeting.
Election of new officers: Bev Sheston announced the nominations that were accepted by the Nominating Committee. Vice-President: Nikki Rahe and Bette Kuboushek. Secretary: Deb Brunsman and Janelle Deutmeyer. Treasurer: Janie Ament and Bev Sheston. Voting took place with the members in attendance and the elected officers are Bette Kuboushek as VP, Deb Brunsman as Secretary, and Janie Ament as Treasurer for a two year term. Nancy Burkle will move from her position as our current VP to be the new President.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 with the Club Collect. Hostesses were Judy Woods and Jean Demmer with yummy desserts. The next meeting will be at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 1st, at the Dyersville Commercial Club Oak Garden meeting room with the installation of the new officers and a potluck dinner.

The March meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, March 6th at Savvy Salvage with 20 members in attendance. Heidi Huisman was our guest speaker and provided us with an explanation of her business and how she started her business.
President Betty Wade called the meeting to order at 7:55 with the Pledge of Allegiance being recited. One guest, Renee Fendell, was present for our meeting. The February minutes were read with one correction noted with the State Convention being hosted by the NE District in April.
New Correspondence: A letter from the Dyersville Economic Development Corporation and Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce regarding the Field of Dreams potential expansion was shared. The newsletter from Opening Doors was shared. The Relay for Life newsletter was shared with members
The Treasurer’s report was given with a balance on hand of $1,108.19 on hand. The 4th and last of the $500 scholarships was paid out for 2011 to Chelsea McCarraher.
Committee Reports: Trivia Night: Feedback was provided by members who volunteered and attended the Trivia Night sponsored by Opening Doors. It was decided we would address future volunteer activities with Opening Doors as they arise. Used clothing that would be distributed to anyone in need, could be donated to The Closet program through St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1276 White Street in Dubuque.
Red Cross: Volunteers for the May 7th blood drive will be solicited in April. A schedule of our upcoming drives was distributed to members and are May 6th, Aug. 10th, Dec. 20th in 2012 and on May 6, 2013.
Website: The Website committee met in February and completed and submitted an application for a $50 award to be judged by GFWC.
Scholarship: Applications are due by April 2nd for the 4 scholarships our club will award of $500 each to be awarded to 2 Western Dubuque and 2 Beckman High School seniors.
New Business: A letter was received from the Beckman Post Prom committee requesting a donation. The donation was tabled until April and follow up will be done to inquire in regards to Western Dubuque school post prom.
Women’s Night is April 11th and a motion was made by Donna Kramer and seconded by Heidi Huisman to pay $30 for our club to have a table at the event.
Coupons: Clip, sort and bring coupons to our May meeting and then they will be mailed to the military for use on their bases. Coupons may be used on the bases up to 3 months after the expiration date. The 4 categories to collect coupons are Non-Food, Food, Health Products, and Baby.
Heifer International: A decision was made to donate $250 with a motion by Nancy Burkle and seconded by Donna Vaske.
Food Pantry: A decision was made to make a $100 donation with a motion by Karen Kramer and seconded by Joan Nurre.
Charter member GFWC/Iowa $100 club: A decision was made to continue as a member of the $100 Club with a motion by Heidi Huisman and seconded by Donna Vaske.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Bette Kuboushek made a motion to have an entry in the parade and seconded by Marlene McAllister. Bette Kuboushek volunteered to drive her vehicle and will purchase candy for distribution at the parade.
Federation News: News & Notes International was shared with members and is looking for family secret recipes. Your recipe may be submitted to them at gfwc.org
The GFWC letter from Carma was shared with members. If anyone has plain white Corell dishes they would like to sell/donate, contact Betty Wade.
State Convention: The NE District will be hosting the State Convention on April 19th and 20th at Cedar Falls. Our club is working on decorations and the installation of officer’s dinner. Volunteers are needed. Betty Wade has the collection of silver pieces owned by the GFWC/Iowa that will be auctioned off at State Convention. Betty Wade suggested our club may want to consider purchasing a piece and she will bring a list of the items to the April meeting for further discussion. Cost to attend the Convention is $107 for both days. The registration fee is $15 and is being waived for one new member from every club. If interested in attending, contact President Betty Wade.
Pinwheels for Child Abuse: Discussion was made about the potential of forming a committee to create pinwheels to distribute by our Club to potentially the Garden Club for display.

The February meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, February 7th at Kramer Funeral Home with 20 members in attendance. Craig Kramer was our guest speaker. He provided us with an explanation of the services they offer, with a question and answer session from the attendees and a tour of the funeral home.
President Betty Wade called the meeting to order at 8:25 with the Pledge of Allegiance being recited. Karen Kramer approved the January minutes.
New Correspondence: A thank you was received from one of our 2011 Scholarship winners, Rachel Pasker. A thank you was received from LaRue Clark for the memorial gift from our club in memory of her husband. The Dyersville Chamber newsletter was shared with members. The Club Woman, a national publication, was shared with members and of particular interest was an article on the front page about the growth of the Dyersville club. Each state sends a representative to the national convention as a LEADS particiatipant to learn more about leadership, education and development, etc of the GFWC. The state helps to cover some of the expenses. If anyone is interested in attending the national convention in Charlotte NC from June 14th to the 17th, contact Betty Wade for further information.
Our club will be the hostess for the State convention this fall that will be held in Cedar Falls. 63 pairs of socks were collected at our Christmas party in December that will be utilized at the convention.
The Treasurer’s report was given with a balance on hand of $1,607.81 with three scholarships having been paid out for 2011. $100 was sent to the GFWC/IA Endowment Fund from the change that is collected at our monthly meetings.
Six members volunteered to work at the Opening Doors Trivia Night in Dubuque on Feb. 10th. This benefit is for the women’s homeless and domestic abuse shelters. Volunteers are Donna Kramer, Tess Milligan, Marge Willenbring, Joyce Lansing, Judy Geistkemper and Shirley Pirc.
Volunteers were solicited for the Nominating Committee for new club officers to be installed in May 2012. Janie Ament volunteered to be the Treasurer for the next 2-year term. Nancy Burkle will move from Vice President to President. The Nominating Committee consists of Mary Jo Goldsmith, Karen Kramer, Bev Sheston and Shirley Pirc to nominate a Vice President and Secretary.
Scholarship applications are due April 2nd in application for the 4 Dyersville GFWC scholarships our club will aware of $500 each to be awarded to 2 Western Dubuque and 2 Beckman High School seniors. Application for a State GFWC Scholarship may be obtained from the state GFWC website.
The committee members that created our website in 2011 will have a meeting on February 20th at 6:30 at the Chamber office to submit an application for a website award. The January meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, January 2nd at the Oak Gardens meeting room at the Dyersville Commercial Club Park with 15 members in attendance. Jessica Pape, from the Riverview Center in Dubuque, was our guest speaker. She provided us with an overview of the services they offer in an effort to create a community free of violence. Services include a 24-hour hotline, therapy/counseling, medical and legal advocacy, an emergency shelter and violence prevention education. New Correspondence: A thank you was received from the American Red Cross for our assistance in coordinating the Dec. 22nd blood drive with 82 units being drawn from the 87 donors who reported. The blood drive was a huge success with the Dyersville community being acknowledged by the Red Cross for the success in the turn around of the blood drives in the community over the past year since the involvement of our club.
The Dyersville Chamber newsletter was shared with members. Of interest was the Blue Zone Community project that we are encouraged to sign up for. The project is connected with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in an effort to make Iowa #1 in the nation for well-being. The show of interest by our community will determine which 10 cities are selected to become Blue Zone Communities. A thank you was received from Carma, State President, thanking us for the number of new members our club has for 2011.
The Treasurer’s report was given with a balance on hand of $3,856.28 and a CD that matures on 1/4/12 valued at $2,145.34 with interest being paid at maturity of $9.70.
Betty Wade provided the baby items that were donated by members at our December meeting to the St. Francis Xavier Layettes group. The donations were greatly appreciated and will in turn be provided to needy families with newborns by the Layettes organization.
Volunteer hours for 2011 were turned in by members and provided to Bette Kuboushek for her to tabulate for her year-end reporting to the State and National GFWC organizations. Any members unreported volunteer hours are to provide them to Bette for her reporting. Bette provided an explanation of the reason for tallying and submitting volunteer hours on an annual basis.
The committee members that created our website in 2011 will be scheduling a meeting in February to submit an application for a website award.
Orders of Pecans were placed in December, and have arrived and are available by contacting Betty Wade.

The December meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 with Christmas caroling at Oakcrest Manor at 6:30 followed by a meeting and dinner at Golf Side Grille. 26 members were in attendance.
President Betty Wade called the meeting to order at 7:20. The New members for 2011 and the current members in attendance were introduced. Two additional new members welcomed to our club this month, which are Joyce Lansing and Carolyn Olberding. The volunteers who assisted with the “Attitude of Gratitude” benefit at the Maria House on Nov. 19th were recognized and thanked by President Wade.
Discussion followed regarding ordering additional pecans to sell. We have deposited $15,000 from pecan sales and made $3,800.
Dyersville Chamber dues are due. A motion was made by Donna Vaske to pay $118.80 for an annual membership, and seconded by Jean Demmer.
Volunteers were recruited for the Red Cross Blood Drive that is being coordinated by our club on Dec. 22nd.
A thank you was received by Bev Sheston from the Relay for Life committee for our donation.
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 followed by dinner. In place of a Christmas gift exchange, baby gifts were brought by members and will be donated to the Dyersville Layettes. Socks were donated by members that will be donated to a women’s shelter by our club. Coupons were donated by members that will be shipped to service men and women to use on their bases. Donna Vaske and Nancy Burkle were hostesses and donated 2 door prizes that were given away. The next meeting is January 3rd and our completed Volunteer Hours form for 2011 will be collected at the January meeting.

The November meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, November, 1st 2011 at Mercy Health Center with Sara Amberg from the Red Cross and Mary Kay Lueck being our guest speakers.
The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wade at 7:40 with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the September meeting were read with a correction made to the minutes of a motion by Mary Jo Goldsmith, seconded by Janie Ament, to donate $50 to the Historical Society in September. The Treasurers report was given with a balance on hand of $130.75 as of 11/1/11. Approximately $14,000 in pecans were sold and deposits will be made to our account for the pecans in the near future.
Correspondence: A letter was received from Opening Door Foundation in regards to a fundraiser they will be sponsoring in November at the Grand River Center to benefit the Maria House in Dubuque. Betty is contacting them to inquire about having our club work as volunteers at the fundraiser on Nov. 19th.
A letter was received from the Special Olympics requesting a donation. A motion was made by Janie Ament to donate $25, and seconded by Joan Nurre. All in favor.
New members: Along with Vicki Meyer, we welcomed 4 additional new members to our club: Kay Tauke, Krystal Rahe, Lu Bockenstedt and Janell Deutmeyer. There are some additional potential new members that may be joining as well.
GFWC has a new project this year requesting clubs to donate socks to shelters. Our club members were requested to bring 1 pair of women’s socks to the December meeting that will be donated to women’s shelter by our club.

At District Convention our program book was reviewed and critiqued with favorable comments received.
Bette Kuboushek shared information about a national contest that our club could enter for a website creation by Women Clubs. Deadline for entry is March with potential to win $50. Our website committee will meet to submit an entry for the contest.
New member recruitment stars: For members that have recruited new members back as far as 2005, they may receive a star from GFWC. A sign up list was passed around for members to sign up to receive a star for their recruitment efforts.
A thank you note was received by Janie Ament from the Dyersville Historical Society to thank us for the donation.
The next meeting is Dec. 6th beginning with Christmas caroling at Oakcrest Manor and the Ellen Kennedy center followed by a meeting and dinner at Golfside Grille. The members will be notified by the calling committee of the location and time. Instead of a gift exchange, you may bring a baby item that will be donated to the Layettes for their gift giving. Bring your clipped coupons to the next meeting sorting them into 4 categories: Baby; Health & Body; Food and Non-Food. Coupons are good for the servicemen to use on their bases up to 3 months after the expiration date of the coupon. Write the total of the value of your coupons on the outside of your envelope. Your Reading list for 2011 will be collected at our December meeting and our goal is to have 100% participation with noting reading of newspapers, magazines, and book. Your Volunteer hours for 2011 will be collected at our January meeting. The club minutes and the 2 forms to use for logging of your Volunteer hours and Reading list are both available on our web site and may be printed from there.

Correspondence: Letter received from Western Dubuque Booster Club inquiring about participation in a fund drive. A motion was made not to participate. A letter was received from the Dyersville Health Foundation regarding their fundraiser dinner. It was agreed to purchase 2 tickets and have a drawing between club members who were interested in attending. Bev Sheston will be representing our club at the banquet on Sept. 21st. The Riverview Center is having a Duck Derby as a fundraiser to benefit their Sex & Domestic Abuse program. A motion was made by Heidi Huisman to purchase 4 ducks for $20, seconded by Mary Jo Goldsmith.
The Treasurers report was given with a balance on hand of $1,350.42.
The August Red Cross Blood Drive, coordinated by our Club, was a big success with 60 units being drawn. GFWC is sponsoring a “Buy A Day” calendar for 2012. An Executive Board decision was made in the summer to purchase April 10th for $25. During the previous business year our club collected $2,688.09 in coupons for servicemen. It was agreed that our club would like to continue to collect coupons that will be mailed to servicemen to use on their bases. The coupons are good for 3 months after the expiration date . The 4 categories to separate coupons into are: Baby, Health & Body, Food, and Non-Food. The Mississippi Valley Regional meeting is Oct. 7th –9th in Nebraska City. Deadline for signup is Sept. 12th, and if anyone would be able to attend, contact President Betty Wade prior to the deadline. The District Convention is Sept. 30th in Independence at the First Presbyterian Church. The program will be about violence protection and would like donations of tote bags and clothing that could be used for victims. If you would like to make a donation of tote bags or clothing, contact Betty Wade. A motion was made by Nancy Burkle for the club to donate $25 to purchase some items, and seconded by Donna Kramer. Cost is $8 and the deadline to register is Sept. 23rd. Contact President Betty Wade if you would like to attend and Bette Kuboushek if you would like to carpool. A sign up sheet was passed around.
Pecan orders are to be reported by Oct. 11th to Mary Jo Goldsmith or Judy Geistkemper. Price is $9 per bag with a choice of plain half pecans, Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Caramel, Glazed and/or Cinnamon pecans.
Our next meeting will be on Oct. 18th, and will be our membership drive and plans are to be held at the Comfort Inn at 6:30. The focus of the drive is DFWC: Dedicated Females Working for the Community. The planning committee is Betty Wade, Bette Kuboushek, Deb Brunsman, Heidi Huisman, Diane Dinan, Nikki Rahe, and Nancy Burkle. A food list for the meeting will be coordinated by Betty Wade, working with Mary Jo Goldsmith and Judy Geistkemper. Wine will be ordered from Park Farm Winery by Betty Wade.

GFWC/Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club
May 3, 2011
The May meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Hall with the Layettes organization. A potluck was enjoyed by all the members and the Layette organization. Hostess was Betty Wade with 16 members in attendance. The 9 Layette members in attendance were our guest speakers and provided us with an explanation of their services and a tour of their meeting room.
The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wade at 7:20 with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the April meeting were approved. The Treasurers report was given with a balance on hand of $724.98. Membership dues of $30 were paid by the members in attendance. Membership dues are to be either mailed to Bette Kuboushek, dropped off at Bette’s home or at the Dyersville Chamber of Commerce.
Bev Sheston presented Relay for Life information and discussion followed. A motion was made by Janie Ament to donate $100 and not have an official team, and was seconded by Donna Kramer.
Bette Kuboushek read a thank you from Irene Scherrman, who was awarded the Woman of the Year at the Women’s Night event in April. The nominations were reviewed and judged by the Dyersville Women’s Club.
Scholarship information was presented by Nancy Burkle, with explanation of the criteria being presented. Judging took place recently with 10 applications from Beckman High School and 12 from Western Dubuque High School seniors. Four students were chosen for the awards that will be presented in the near future to the winners.
Janie Ament inquired as to if the club would be interested in donating $50 for flowers to be planted around Xavier Church this spring. Nancy Burkle made a motion to make the donation and Donna Vaske seconded it.
Betty Wade spoke about the State Convention. Bette Kuboushek stated that our club won First place in Youth Advocacy – President’s Special Project, First place in Communication and Identify Advancement, and a fall new member certificate, First place in Home Life –Collaboration, and the Silver award for International Outreach Community Service program, which was a silver tray.
Store coupons were handed in that were collected by members to be provided to Servicemen to use at their bases. Discussion followed as to if we want to continue this and it was decided to stop this for the summer and to then continue in the fall again.
Janie Ament said she was impressed with the agendas and presentations this year. Next year’s agendas have not been set. Nancy Burkle would like members to provide her with ideas for programs. Discussion was held that the club might want to do things somewhat different next year, such as new member recruitment, social occasions, etc.

The April meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Oak Gardens meeting room at the Dyersville Commercial Club. Hostess were Judy Woods and Bev Sheston with 19 members in attendance.
Jim Steger, Owner of Bi-County Disposal, was our guest speaking with our club members about recycling and doing our part to help keep America beautiful.
The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wade at 7:50 with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the March meeting were approved.
New correspondence: The Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce newsletter was shared with members. A thank you letter was received from Ann Lorenz for the $50 donation our club made to the Opening Doors program at Maria House and Theresa Shelter, and for having her as our guest at the March meeting. Betty Wade will contact Ann to see if there would be any volunteer activities our club could do as a group at the shelters on weekends.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Bette Kuboushek with a balance of $1,477.10 on April 1st. Our CD with a balance of $2,145.34 was renewed for 9 months on April 4th.
Three cases of plain, glazed and chocolate pecans were received and are available for $9 per bag from Betty Wade. Payment will be made by the Treasurer for this pecan order.
Members were encouraged to attend the State Convention in Marshalltown on April 16th and 17th. Our club has been nominated for several awards and President Betty Wade and Treasurer Bette Kuboushek plan to attend the convention. Deadline for registration is April 5th and members are to contact Betty Wade today if they wish to attend.
Information was shared with club members from a meeting of the Blood Drive committee members with Danielle Grabe from the Red Cross office. The blood drives that we will be coordinating are scheduled to be held in Dyersville on May 24th, a date to be determined yet for August, and on December 22nd at Xavier Auditorium. We will need volunteers to assist with distributing posters and a calling committee to contact some prior donors for each drive. We will need volunteers for set up the day of each blood drive, clean up after the drive, assistance at the registration and canteen tables. A sign up sheet was passed around for members to sign up for an area they may wish to assist with at either the May or August drives. If you know of someone who would like to volunteer their time for a few hours to assist as a volunteer with any of the Red Cross blood drives, contact Shirley Pirc at 875-6015.

Clipped coupons are to be sorted, totaled by placing into 4 categories and will be collected at our May meeting and sent to a base in Italy. Coupons may be up to 4 months past their expiration date. The 4 categories are Health & Body, Baby, Food and Non-Food. The total value of the coupons that have been collected to date by our club is $3,361.51.
Our club will have a booth at the annual Women’s Night on April 5th at the Toy Capitol Rec Center, manned by Betty Wade and Bette Kuboushek.
New business: Judy Woods presented a fund raiser idea that is available through Our IOWA magazine that would benefit the club by selling a cookie cookbook, with a $5 profit for the club per book. The magazine and cookbook were circulated to club members to view and think about this suggestion.
The 2011 Scholarship applications have been received by Nancy Burkle and are ready for judging to determine the $500 winner for both Beckman High School and Western Dubuque High School graduates. Judging will be completed within the next few weeks by Nancy Burkle, Betty Wade and Judy Woods.
The next monthly meeting will be held on May 3rd at 5:30 PM in the basement of the St. Francis Xavier Basilica. The Layette organization will be our guest and providing a tour of their Layettes meeting area and telling us about the goodwill they provide for needy families with newborns. Club dues of $30 will be collected at the next meeting and we will have our annual potluck at this meeting.
The Club Collect was read and the meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM, followed by some great desserts, again, and socializing with members.

The March meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Ellen Kennedy Living Center. Hostess was Kari Wittmeyer with 16 members in attendance.
Ann Lorenz, Marketing and Development Director of the Maria House, was our guest speaker and spoke with our club members about the Opening Doors program at the Maria House and Teresa Shelter. She provided us with additional suggestions on ways our club could volunteer to assist their organization in the future. A $50 donation was made by our club to be used for 5 beds that are at a cost of $10 per bed per night.
The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wade at 7:15 with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the February meeting were read with a correction with noting Marge Willenbring as a hostess of the January meeting. Minutes were subsequently approved.
New correspondence: News and Notes from the Federated Women’s Club were passed around. The Dyersville club was acknowledged as being one of 2 clubs with the highest number of new members in Iowa. A Relay For Life letter was received by Bev Sheston and shared with members. The 2011 Relay for Life is scheduled for Aug. 5th & 6th in Dyersville and our Relay committee will be headed by Bev Sheston and Donna Vaske.
The Women’s Club will participate in the Dyersville St. Patrick’s Day parade with a vehicle being driven by Judy Geistkemper and candy will be purchased for distribution. All members who could assist her with the parade were asked to contact Judy directly to assist her.
A sign up sheet was passed by Janie Ament for members to sign up to participate in a healthy food choices education session at Fareway. Mary Wessels of Groovy Grounds will host the session for club members on March 8th at 7:30.
Coupons were collected from club members that will be mailed to the Federated Women’s Club for distribution to the Military for use at their bases. Members were encouraged to continue to collect all coupons and they will again be collected at our May meeting.
Discussion was entered regarding if we would volunteer to assist in coordinating the Red Cross blood drives in Dyersville. A motion was made by Janie Ament and seconded by Donna Vaske to move forward with this project this year and then make a decision at the end of the year regarding continuation of this project in 2012. Another committee meeting will be setup with Danielle Grabe of the Red Cross to further discuss the volunteer project. Three blood drives are scheduled in Dyersville on May 24th, Aug. 29th & Dec. 22nd at Xavier Auditorium.
Updates regarding the progression of our website were shared by Bev Sheston.
The next GFWC monthly meeting will be held on April 5th at 7:00 PM with Bi-County Disposal as our guest speak on the subject of Keeping America Beautiful.
There was no new business. The Club Collect was read, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM and was followed by dessert and socializing by the members.

The February meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held
on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Dyersville Commercial Club meeting room at the Oak Gardens. Hostesses were Donna Vaske and Judy Welling with 16 members in attendance.
Mary Wessels from Groovy Grounds was our guest speaker and spoke with our club
members about healthy eating habits. Mary shared some of her recipe ideas, wellness
and nutrition ideas and suggestions for motivational goal setting. Groovy Grounds offers
a “Super Groovy Wellness Weight Loss Program” for anyone interested in losing weight

New correspondence included receipt of the 2011 Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce number for our plaque. The Chamber newsletter was shared and is available online at www.dyersville.org. The Chamber Women’s Night is scheduled for April 6th. A motion was made by Donna Kramer to approve $50 to reserve a booth and 2 meal tickets for participation in Women’s Night, and seconded by Bev Sheston. The Club will be selling pecans at the booth. Pecan prices have increased and thus the price will increase to $9 per bag. It was agreed to have President Betty Wade order 5 cases of a mixture of plain, chocolate and glazed pecans. Discussion was made as to ideas for entering the St.
Patrick’s Day parade in Dyersville. A letter was received from the Beckman High School
post prom committee requesting a donation to the post prom party. A motion was made
by Nancy Burkle and seconded by Dorothy Digmann to provide $50 to the BHS post prom.
A thank you letter was received from Cookie Scherrman thanking the Woman’s Club for
the $100 donation to the Food Pantry for Christmas giving.
The Dyersville GFWC was acknowledged in the December issue of the Club Woman
Magazine for their accomplishments.
A letter was received regarding donations of watches to the American Mural project.
A letter was received from Carlene Garner, International President, regarding the
upcoming convention in Milwaukee. News & Notes was reviewed with club members. If

Updates regarding the progress of our website was shared by Bev Sheston on behalf of
the website committee. Information that will be on the website has been put together and
a demonstration was provided to club members with progress made towards launching
of a website in the near future. Our club appears to be the first Iowa Club with a website.

The GFWC members were reminded to continue to clip and then bring our coupons to the next meeting, along with the total value of the coupons you are submitting. The coupons that are collected will be sent to GFWC and will then be sent to Servicemen to utilize for purchases on their Bases.
A committee was setup to meet with an employee of the American Red Cross to obtain
information about potentially assisting with coordinating blood drives for the Red Cross
in Dyersville. After the committee meeting, information will be brought back to the next
monthly meeting for further discussion. The Committee Meeting is scheduled for 5:00 on
Feb. 24th with Danielle Grabe.
The next GFWC monthly meeting will be held on March 1st at 6:30 PM at the Ellen Kennedy Living Center with our guest speaker being from the Maria House, a shelter for women. Our Club Collect was read and meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM. The canister was passed for donations for State GFWC Endowment Fund. A yummy lunch was enjoyed by all the members served by Donna and Judy.

GFWC/Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club
January 4, 2011
The January meeting of the GFWC/Iowa Dyersville Federated Woman’s Club was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Dyersville Commercial Club meeting room at the Oak Gardens in Dyersville, Iowa. Sharon Gudenkauf and Wilma Rausch were our hostesses with 16 members in attendance.
Heidi Wall was our guest speaker and spoke with the club members about the Foster Care and Adoption programs in our county and with the state. A question and answer session followed this interesting presentation that was given by Heidi and her daughter.
The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wade at 8:00 PM. Minutes from the December meeting were read and approved.
New correspondence included a thank you Christmas card from the Layette’s for the baby gift donations made by our club members at our meeting in December. The baby gifts will be provided to needy families with newborns by the Layette organization. The Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce newsletter was reviewed and shared with the members. The GFWC National Federation newsletter was shared with members.
The Treasurer’s report was passed out to members by Bette Kuboushek. Beginning balance was $14,347.72. After payment of bills, the ending balance on hand in our checking account is $3,640.42. Future service charges will be waived by American Trust & Savings Bank for our checking account. Based on pecan purchases and sales, the club is expected to net $4,000 on our pecan sales. Glazed pecans are available from Betty Wade and additional varieties may be available at Konrardy Florist and The Prescription Shoppe.
The creation of a website for our club was further discussed with Jim Derr and Beckman High School by Shirley Pirc. Mr. Derr will follow up with his students to inquire if any students would like to volunteer to assist our club in creating our website. Mr. Derr also expressed an interest in training some members of our club to maintain the site and felt this would be a way for him personally to be able to return a favor to our club for the $500 scholarship his daughter received from the Dyersville Federated Women’s Club a few years ago. A committee was setup to work on the website project and members on the committee include Mary Jo Goldsmith, Bette Kuboushek, and Shirley Pirc. A suggestion was made to invite Bev Sheston, who was not at the meeting, to be on the committee.
Nancy Burkle gave a report on the Scholarship program for 2011. Four scholarships of $500 each will be given to two Western Dubuque and two Beckman High School graduating seniors. Club members who score the returned applications are Nancy Burkle and Betty Wade. Judy Woods, who was not in attendance, will be invited to be a on the committee again as well. Scholarships are paid out after the first semester of college transcripts are provided and approved by the committee.
BINGO at Oak Crest Manor will be sponsored by the Women’s Club at the end of February.
New Business: Shirley Pirc spoke with the American Red Cross about helping them to coordinate blood drives in Dyersville. After a discussion, it was agreed to invite Danielle Grabe, Donor Recruitment Representative for the American Red Cross, to our February meeting to further discuss this volunteer opportunity for the American Red Cross.
The Commercial Club has extended our Women’s Club the use of the Oak Gardens meeting room for our monthly meetings, whenever it is not booked for another event. In turn, it was suggested that our club setup a booth at the July 3rd celebration at the Commercial Club to offer some form of entertainment prior to the fireworks display. Further discussion on suggestions for a booth will be pursued when the date is closer.
A reminder was given to turn in the 2010 volunteer hours and reading lists, if they have not been turned in. New 2011 forms for recording our volunteer hours and reading lists for the Adventures in Reading Program will be provided to members to complete and then turn in at the end of 2011.
