Announcement: Durham Risk Day 2014 has been scheduled for 12th November 2014.
The event will take place in the Joachim Room of St Hild and St Bede College.
Durham Risk Day is sponsored by the Durham Energy Institute and the IEEE Power and Energy Society UK and Republic of Ireland Chapter
Risk and reliability modelling is an area of ever-increasing importance in energy systems. The advent of new technologies such as innovations in energy storage and smart grids has helped foster a shift in paradigm in energy systems towards higher penetration levels of intermittent renewable generation. Moreover, due to increased pressure for energy systems to be run in a 'lean' manner, new methods for planning and operational decisions in energy systems are often required to be risk-based, as opposed to relying on more traditional conservative heuristic approaches.
This meeting will bring together researchers in the field to present state-of-the-art methods in risk and reliability modelling, including engineers working in energy systems, and mathematicians and statisticians with key relevant expertise and an interest in energy system applications. The scope of the meeting includes probabilistic risk assessment and associated statistical modelling, the broad range of analytical techniques which may be required for assessing and mitigating system stability risk (particularly major disturbances), and economic risk as seen by operators (for instance, network planning for renewables integration and real time system operation).
