The Spring 2009 Seminar Service Learning Project created an Asset Map of the Hill District and two presentations aimed at calling attention to the many assets of the Hill District neighborhood.
The first step of this project was for the students of the Spring 2009 Seminar to define and assess the Hill District's diverse assets. The students identified potential assets of the Hill District through neighborhood observation reports and interviews with community leaders. Next, individual students visited asset sights and conducted research, extensively taking photographs and shooting video, and interviewed Hill District residents with personal connections to said sights.
Having completed the "field work," the students next sought to compile their information into a single narrative report. This process consisted of mapping the identified asset sights and constructing a website to showcase their research.
The hope for the Spring 2009 Asset Map is that any interested investors or researchers will have an in-depth valuation of many of the Hill District's assets readily available, and that the adjoining presentations will help to bring attention to the many positive aspects of Pittsburgh's Hill District.
