Course Credit

For Fuqua Students:
Fuqua students receive course credit if they are on a team that is accepted into the Program.
Fall Term 2 - New Ventures 1
Spring Term 1 and 2 - New Ventures 2
Fall Term 1 and 2 - New Ventures 3

Can we do P4E (up to 15 credits) and other experiential courses at Fuqua?".
The answer is yes.

You can take whatever experiential courses you want (including P4E or GATE), but can only apply 15 of those experiential credits towards graduation. This rule was modified in September 2012, and therefore this is the first year where the limit affects P4E.

The clarifying point reads: "Note that the proposed limit applies to credits that count towards graduation. Students might take additional courses above and beyond graduation requirements; the proposed limits to do not pertain to such extra courses."

Other experiential courses include: GATE, Mentored Study, FCCP, and Independent Study.

I should also clarify that, when you enter P4E, you are not required to finish all three courses. In other words, by joining New Ventures 1 (the first course in P4E which starts in Fall 2), you are only committing to 3 credits of experiential credit. After the course, you can choose whether you will continue to New Ventures 2 (6 credits) and New Ventures 3 (6 credits).

For Undergraduates:
Through the Department of Economics and the Department of Sociology and the Markets and Management Certificate, undergraduates are able to participate in the Program for Entrepreneurs.

  • Need to match with one of the teams (usually led by an MBA student(s)) - join the Entrepreneurship at Duke - Startup Matchmaker - matching is at the discretion of the Team Leads
  • Need to then get approval from Jon Fjeld
  • Need to then enroll in the course before the Add/Drop deadline

To get up to speed on the concepts for the Program for Entrepreneurs, it may be useful to review this slide deck containing the slides for past info sessions

For Graduate and Professional School students looking to join a team:
The classes in the Program for Entrepreneurs are offered by Fuqua, and any Graduate or Professional School student can conceivably participate through interschool course processes.  Contact your school's course administrators for more information on that process.

There has been successful participation from the Graduate School, the Master in Engineering Management Program, the Nicholas School, the Law School and others.

Please visit the Fuqua Registrar website for information regarding non-Fuqua student registration in a Fuqua course.  The Duke Grad/Prof Student Course Registration form can be found on our website and will need to be submitted to our office.

The Fuqua Registrars' Office is located in the basement level of East Keller wing, under the Fox Student Center.  Take the stairs down to the basement and we are located in the Student Services Suite to the left.  If you’d like you can email it to me.  I will use this correspondence in lieu of Jon’s signature.

Please note our registration dates may differ from your department of school of study.
