Brought to you by Delaware Literacy Association and the Delaware Department of Education
200 Delaware educators welcomed renowned researchers Kylene Beers and Bob Probst to the annual Fall Literacy Institute. Throughout the day, participants practiced questioning and collaboration strategies to use in Delaware classrooms. Strategies shared helped to generate excitement around reading while making reading more concrete and increasing reading comprehension.
The conference focus centered on strategies to help students question texts, authors, and ultimately, their own thinking. Drs. Beers and Probst boo, Reading Nonfiction: Notice & Note Stances, Signposts and Strategies, was at the center of the Literacy Institute. Reading Nonfiction contains classroom-tested suggestions, which leads students toward skillful and responsible disciplinary literacy. Drs. Beers and Probst returned to Delaware, having previously served as Literacy Conference keynotes presenting, Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading.
