"Intravenous administration of the conditionally replicative adenovirus Ad5-[Delta]24RGD induces regression of osteosarcoma lung metastases"

The prognosis for individuals with metastatic osteosarcoma is very poor and the demand for treatments is high.  The adenovirus Ad5-[Delta]24RGD is conditionally replicative and previous research on local cancers has demonstrated its potential anti-tumor effects. Specifically this study looked at whether the intravenous administration of this virus, Ad5-[Delta]24RGD would be able to suppress human OS lung metastases growth. The study was specifically conducted in mice with SaOs-lm7 OS lung metastases. They were treated at week intervals 1, 2 and 3 or 5, 6 and 7 post-injection of tumor cells with Ad5-[Delta]24RGD. The findings were that mice given treatment with the virus at weeks 1–3 showed a reduction in macroscopic lung tumor nodules from a median of >158 in control mice treated with PBS to 58 in mice treated with Ad5-[Delta]24RGD (p = 0.15). Mice treated at weeks 5–7 showed a decrease of tumor mass in the lungs (p < 0.05), decrease of disease symptoms (p < 0.005) and a reduction in macroscopic lung tumor nodules (median 60 versus > 149, p = 0.12) as compared with the control animals treated with PBS. These findings  are suggestive of the fact that the systemic administration of the Ad5-[Delta]24RGD virus might offer a promising new strategy for the treatment of metastatic osteosarcoma.

"Adenovirus IL-13-induced Airway Disease in Mice: A Corticosteroid-resistant Model of Severe Asthma"

Interleukin 13 is known to drive allergic inflammation of the airway leading to airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR); however the mechanism of this not well understood. Adenovirus IL-13 was administered to mice in order to explore key mediators of IL-13 that are downstream. This experiment identified several proteins unique to this model. Generally, the findings from this study have implications in a broader appreciation for the impact of IL-13 on lung disease.

"Comparison between Sendai Virus and adenovirus vectors to transduce HIV-1 genes in human dendritic cells". 

The efficiency of the induction of green fluorescent protein (GFP) and HIV-1 gene expression in human monocyte-derived DCs in SeV and adenovirus (AdV) was compared. SeV vector presented higher cytopathic effect on DCs than did AdV; but, in terms of cell surface phenotype, both the vectors of SeV and AdV induced maturation of DC.
