Supervisors of theses and final projects at the graduate level from computer science and data technical departments at Danish universities are invited to nominate theses for the prize for best thesis in computer science for the year 2017.

Call for nominations for the best thesis in computer science in 2017

The Danish Computer Science Society hereby invites nominations for the award for best Master's thesis/dissertation handed in during the 2017 calendar year by one of the computer science and data technical departments at Danish universities. The price, which now stands at 5,000 kr., was first awarded in 1991 and donated by the Danish Society for Computer Science. Each supervisor can nominate one project for the prize.

There is considerable scope for thesis topics to be considered for the prize. It may be a program or algorithm, a theoretical contribution, development methodologies, techniques and tools, or problems related to the introduction and use of IT-based products. Nominated projects and winners from previous years can be found on the association's web site:

To be considered for the prize, a project should be either innovative, i.e., offer independent new results of theoretical or empirical nature, or new practical constructions; demonstrate new applications, i. e., original use of computer science principles or structures on a new problem or in a new way; or communicate at a high pedagogical level, i. e. collect, process and present a difficult topic in a superior manner.

To be considered for award, a thesis must be nominated by the supervisor. The nomination should be about one page in length and contain a summary of the thesis along with the supervisor's detailed justification for the nomination. Confidential theses, where it is not possible to publish the nomination or present the content at a public lecture will not be considered. The nomination must include the name of the second examiner, the grade given, and the e-mail addresses of author(s) and supervisor. The nominations will be published in the association's newsletter and website.

The association's board will select an award committee based on the submitted theses. The board and the committee will select the top 3 nominated theses from which the winner will be selected by the award committee. The authors and supervisors for the theses from this group will be invited to the awards ceremony and dinner.

The awards ceremony will take place at the association's annual business meeting June 12, 2018.

The nomination and an electronic copy of the thesis report should be sent by March 15. 2018 in an e-mail to
