I am located in the Metro Detroit Area. I teach in my home studio located in
............ Clinton Township Michigan.
For those who do not live in the Metro Detroit area I offer ONLINE SKYPE lessons.
IN STUDIO LESSONS -- For students that come to my drum studio in Clinton Twp Michigan, I have two drum kits set up side by side in where I can work with student during the lesson.
ONLINE LESSONS -- Online lessons is an optional way to learn to play without having to meet in my home studio for lessons. The is great for anyone who is not able to come directly to my location for lessons.
In studio lessons are my preferred way to teach, as it allows me to work with you with minimal limitations that online lessons can present. We will learn through techniques including drum books and visual / ear technique through playing together on two separate drum kits.
Online lessons are done online through Skype. You will need to sign up for a FREE Skype account. To connect online, you will need a laptop/tablet with a camera. You may also consider using an external camera with your laptop. This allows you to have more freedom setting up the positions of your laptop/tablet and camera. Being separated allows for a more comfortable angle for your monitor to see me and the camera for me to see you and your kit. You will also need a faster internet connection to connect to Skype online. Faster internet speeds will help with internet lag that happens when working online.
In my studio, I have a set up to teach online with several Zoom H2n Q4 cameras for optimum view. I can also record your online lesson each week. This allows you to go back after we finish the lessons and review you lesson. This will help you with your weekly practicing.
I also have online videos posted on You Tube where students can view instructional videos I made just for my students. My students will have special access to these instructional videos. These videos will go along with your lessons to help with learning and practice.
I also have additional videos posted on You Tube for anyone interested in watching me play songs showing the beats and technique played for these song. These were recorded on my drums in my home studio. This list of songs I have posted online is growing all the time as I add new songs to my You Tube Channel. Go check out my videos and subscribe to my You Tube channel. When you subscribe you will get notice when I have added any new videos.
I teach with techniques that are easy to understand to motivate students when learning to play. Learning by example is one of the important parts of the teaching process. In studio I teach with two separate drum kits, one for me to play on and another for the student to play on. This makes it ideal to show a student how to play by example playing side by side.
I teach all my students how to read music as well as working on developing strong ear technique and to learn how to improvise. I like to make learning music fun. I feel a solid foundation starts with developing good practice habits in the beginning stages. I also teach students to work with a metronome for developing timing and smoothness. Timing is an important technique to master as a drummer.
MY BACKGROUND:
I have been play drums since the age of 4. Starting in the 4th grade school band, I began to develop my skills continuing through High School including marching band. I also worked with several drum teachers starting in my teenage years to learn drum set technique and focus on snare drum rudimental technique.
I started playing professionally in bands at the age of 17 working in the local clubs around Michigan over the years. At 19, I started teaching private drum lesson to student. I have worked teaching lessons at a variety of local Music Stores in the Metro Detroit Area as well as in my home studio. I have taught drums lessons to well over 500 students.
I have developed a solid snare drum method and drum set method of teaching. I have also worked with many students preparing them for Marching Band, Solo Ensemble Festival and American Guild of Music Festival. I have also hosted and performed at a number of local Drum Clinics and Drum Jam Recital
