I am interested in ecosystem responses driven by changing climate, by acquisition of species both through natural migration and human introductions, and by impacts from human disturbances and management. My research cover both applied and basic issues in ecology. Through my research as a plant ecologist and ecohydrologist, I seek to shed light on how entire ecosystems and plant species individually respond to changing conditions. Responses of organisms and ecosystems to global change are among the most pressing unknowns in ecology with fundamental consequences for life on earth. I use a combination of field surveys, manipulative experiments, species distribution modeling, and simulation modeling to address predictions from an array of concepts in ecosystems ecology.
