Ranjit Thakuria

Associate Professor

Ranjit Thakuria obtained his BSc (2000–2003) from B. Borooah College and his MSc (2004–2005) from Gauhati University, India. He subsequently joined the University of Hyderabad, where he earned his PhD in Crystal Engineering in 2011 under the supervision of Professor Ashwini Nangia. Following his doctoral studies, he pursued postdoctoral research with Professor William Jones at the University of Cambridge, UK (2011–2012), and later with the late Professor Israel Goldberg at Tel Aviv University, Israel (2013–2014).  In 2014, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Gauhati University, Assam, as an Assistant Professor, a position he held until 2021. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the same department. His primary research interests include pharmaceutical cocrystals, agro-cocrystals, and the design and synthesis of functional materials using mechanochemical approaches.

Dr. Thakuria has received several prestigious national and international awards, including the SERB Young Scientist Award, the Emerging Investigators recognition in Crystal Growth & Design (ACS) for 2019 and 2022, and the Pioneering Investigators Award from Chemical Communications (RSC) for 2025. He was also awarded the highly competitive Ulam NAWA Fellowship and served as a visiting scientist at the University of Warsaw, Poland, from April to December 2025. Additionally, he received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2021 from the Academisthan Foundation.

He has been listed among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Elsevier and Stanford University for six consecutive years (2020–2025). He has served as a Guest Editor for a Crystal Growth & Design virtual special issue on “π–π Stacking in Crystal Engineering: Fundamentals and Applications” and has been recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer by the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2021 and 2023.

Dr. Thakuria has authored more than 80 research articles in reputed international journals, including Chemical Communications, ChemSusChem, Chemistry – An Asian Journal, Journal of Materials Chemistry C, and Angewandte Chemie. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of CrystEngComm (RSC) and serves as a reviewer for numerous leading journals, including Journal of the American Chemical Society, CrystEngComm, Chemical Communications, Crystal Growth & Design, ChemSusChem, and the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, among others.
