Mission Statement

We offer a happy "home-away-from-home", welcoming and safe environment for our residents, providing wholesome and professional care based on the concept of the} dignity of the human person. Staff are mindful of the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of each resident. In providing a few short breaks per annum, of two or three weeks at a time, we not only ensure that people "in their autumn years" can remain within their own families and community for as long as possible, but also provide much-needed relief for their primary caregivers.

Accommodation

Dromcollogher & District Respite/Care Centre is a purpose-built single storied centre incorporating a three-unit twenty-bed residence. It was established by huge voluntary local community effort in conjunction with various statutory bodies and many generous donors to help meet a growing need in our society at the present time. The Centre provides short-term care for senior citizens within the general catchment area of Limerick and North Cork.

Dining

Fresh and tasty foods are prepared daily to meet the nutritional dietary needs of residents. Residents are encouraged to avail of the dining-room for dinner and supper, while breakfast is served in bed. Light refreshments are available at all times.

Staff/Care

Care is provided "on a 24hrs, seven days a week basis" by registered nurses, care assistants, auxiliary and administrative staff, managed by Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, supported by an active management committee and other volunteer~. The Centre works in conjunction and in co-operation with all other health agencies within the area and directly with residents' doctors in regard to prescribed medicines etc. Local General Practitioners or Shannondoc are on call to residents at all times. Communication with and each to families and caregivers is integral to our philosophy.

Pastoral Care

Each person's individual spirituality is nourished through celebration of Mass in our Respite chapel on Saturdays and special days. Daily Mass from the local Church is broadcast to our chapel within a communion service followed by the rosary. The chapel provides a place for personal, quiet and reflective moments as and when required. Anointing of the sick is celebrated monthly or as the need arises. Our local priests maintain regular contact, in addition to the pastoral care of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Outreach to families: we visit and support families in times of serious illness, loss and bereavement as well as visiting to celebrate their joyous events.

Social Cities

Residents are encouraged and helped to interact with one another and participate in appropriate activities to enhance their quality of life whilst addressing their individual needs and always respecting their individuality and personal dignity.  Appropriate activities stimulation are fundamental to the happiness, well-being and quality of life of residents. These include: live music sessions, storytelling, dancing, social evenings, communal reading, television, visiting including interaction with the local community and walks in our gardens. Family and friends are encouraged to become involved. Other services available include: available include chiropody and hairdressing. The ongoing improvement of services and facilities for the benefit of residents is always a priority.

Fees

Fees are kept as reasonable as possible. Presently they are set in the general area of the standard state pension for a single person.
