I teach algorithms and data structures, computational geometry, and competitive programming at Utah State University. My research interests are in the areas of theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics. If you are a student interested in doing research under my supervision, please solve problems 1 to 100 on Project Euler, then read at least one of my recent papers to be able to discuss it, before you approach me in this regard.

  • If you wonder why people waste their valuable time solving such silly problems, or wonder what these problems have to do with the real world, then most likely you will not like my research area.
  • If you like these problems but feel that they are trivial, and you can solve all 100 of them in one week, then you should look for better opportunities elsewhere: I am not good enough to teach you anything.
  • If you breeze through about 80% of these problems, struggle with a few harder ones but nevertheless enjoy the struggle, and eventually solve all 100 of them, more or less independently, in one month, then you might like what I do for research, and might be capable of doing it better than me.
