 Dr Bakshi did Ph.D. from Panjab University Chandigarh, India, in Inorganic Chemistry. After PhD, he visited various universities of the world fame on different post-doctoral assignments. He was on post-doc assignment in the Dept of Chemistry, University of Palermo, Italy; Dept of Materials Science and Ecological Biology, Toyohashi university of Technology; Dept of Chemistry, Osaka City University, and Science University of Tokyo, Japan. He served as permanent faculty in the Dept of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India. In 2005, he joined Dept of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Western University of Ontario as Visiting Scientist. He taught in the Dept of Chemistry, Acadia University, Nova Scotia, and Wilfrid Laurier University, Ontario, before joining Dept of Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, USA.

He has published more than 200 research publications (Google Scholar) in various journals of international repute in the fields of Colloids and Bio-nanomaterials.
