NEW: I have taken up a consultancy role in decision analytics since March 2017!
Dr. Shafi holds a PhD in Computer Science, an M.Sc. in Telecoms Engineering and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. His PhD thesis was awarded the Stephen Fester Award for the most outstanding thesis on an Information Technology related topic by a Masters by Research or PhD student. His research interests include development of computational intelligence based techniques for decision analytics in diverse domains including defence, logistics and computer security domains. In this context, he has contributed in several disciplines including genetic-based machine learning, evolutionary optimisation and evolutionary game theory and has authored or co-authored several publications so far in related disciplines. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Technology (SEIT) at the University of New South Wales, Canberra (aka, UNSW@ADFA). He is a member of IEEE, the Australian Society of Operations Research (ASOR), IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (IEEE-CIS) and an executive member of the ACT Chapter of IEEE-CIS. He served as an elected organising member of International Workshop on Learning Classifier Systems (IWLCS) from 2013 to 2016 and served as the publicity chair of the 2012 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI). He was a program committee member for ACM Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) and IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC) from 2005 to 2016.
