How Homeopathy eases the snag in Chicken-Pox!

posted Jan 25, 2017, 11:54 PM by Jaya Srivastava   [ updated Feb 27, 2017, 8:58 PM ]

Nowadays is favourable season for chickenpox- a highly contagious viral infection. The word chickenpox comes from the Old English word "gican" meaning "to itch" or from the Old French word "chiche-pois" for chickpea, a description of the size of the lesion. It mostly affects the children but some adults are on risk too specially if they haven’t been exposed to the virus earlier.

Sign & Symptoms

  • Symptoms begin with flu like symptoms like a low grade fever, loss of appetite and decreased activity.
  • In a day or two an itchy rash consisting of small red bumps develops on the scalp, face and trunk and then spread to the arms and legs and maybe to mouth and genital organs
  • The bumps then become blisters with clear and then cloudy fluid. New bumps can keep coming for 2-4 days
  • Blisters finally crust over within about 1-2 days, scab develops which eventually dries and falls off

The Cause

Chicken pox is caused by the varicella virus which is an enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus. It attaches to the wall of the cell it invades, and then enters the cell. The virus uncoats and is transported to the nucleus where the viral DNA replicates creating new virions that are eventually released from the cell to infect other cells.

How it spreads

Chicken pox is acquired by direct contact with infected person or by inhalation of infected respiratory droplets passed through cough/sneeze.

The virus enters the lungs, and then is carried through the bloodstream to the skin where it causes a rash. While the virus is in the bloodstream (before the rash begins) it causes typical viral symptoms like fever, fatigue, joint pains, headache, and swollen glands. These symptoms usually resolve by the time the rash develops.

It may take about a week until new lesions stop appearing and existing lesions crust over. Chickenpox is contagious for approximately seven days during a person’s period of infection. Contagiousness begins about two days before symptoms appear and continues until all blisters have formed scabs. Therefore it is advised to isolate the  infected person isolated from others during those seven days.

Conservative treatment

The usual treatments are aimed at making the child more comfortable, and include bed-rest, pain relievers, plenty of fluids, oatmeal baths, calamine lotion, and oral Benadryl for severe itchiness. Acyclovir, an antiviral drug, is used to treat severe cases of chickenpox, particularly in patients with a weakened immune system.

It is good to keep the child's fingernails cut short and allow him to wear loose fitting clothing.

Homeopathic Management

To cure this skin condition fast, you need to address healing the body internally as well as externally.  Homeopathy helps you to be well on your way to cure this virus and rash fast.

There are very effective medicines in Homeopathy that provide a great relief during chicken pox. To name some, Aconite, Apis, Antimonim crud, Antimonium tart, Arsenic album, Belladonna, Kali mur, Pulsatilla, Rhus tox, Sulphur, Variolinum are among the list.

Homeopathy works on individualization, therefore the medicine which is well suited to the case is carefully prescribed only after taking the details of the affected person regarding his/her personality, general & particular symptoms and modalities. The cautiously given remedies not only provide speedy and gentle symptomatic relief but also avoid the extreme weakness. Children can be seen playing indoors while running the chicken pox course.

The phase of viral sickness passes with a great ease with gentle help from Homeopathic remedies. Homeopathic remedies can increase resistance in the short run during times of epidemics and also act as preventative medicines.

Diet is another aspect to take care in order to speed-up the recovery.

Foods to take: Foods that are rich in water should be taken so the body can easily digest them and absorb the nutrients.  Fruits and vegetables like watermelon, blueberries, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, sprouts, and banana provide good nutrition to the recovering body. Fluid intake should be increased to avoid any dehydration. Coconut water is one of the best options to take other than water.

Foods to avoid: Meat and other foods that are high in saturated fat should be avoided when one has the chicken pox as the foods that are high in saturated fat can promote inflammation, making the rash worse and slowing healing. Spicy, salty, processed and highly acidic foods are also better be avoided. Sugary drinks are to be avoided as well.

Following Homeopathic prescription and proper diet will grant a huge boost in energy and the body will be able to cleanse itself from the toxins and fight off the virus swiftly.

Bringing up children can be the most rewarding and fulfilling job in the world but it is also the one for which many of us are least prepared. For many parents trial and error is the usual way of learning and it can be difficult to cope with behavior that is challenging and constantly pushes parents to the limits.

At every stage of life as the child grows and develops, Homeopathy can lend a helping hand.

Ever since the science of homeopathy was introduced 200 years ago by a German doctor Samuel Hahnemann, it has won praise especially for the treatment of little new-born, neonate, infants and children; of course for variety of reasons. Today, there are many pediatricians preferring homeopathic treatment for their children & patients in various pediatric conditions.

Let’s have a quick look on the 5 reasons why homeopathy is good for children: here
