Dr Jatinder Singh Goraya, MD, FRCPC (Neurology) is a graduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD - Pediatrics) from Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, and currently is working as Assistant Professor in Pediatric Neurology. After finishing his MD in Pediatrics in 1993, he joined PGIMER Chandigarh as a senior resident in Pediatrics. Later he worked up to the level of Associate Professor of Paediatrics in Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh. During this period, he developed a special interest in Pediatric Neurology and was instrumental in starting Child Neurology Services at GMCH.
In June 2005, he went to USA for Fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at the prestigious St Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Philadelphia (Dr Waldo E Nelson, renowned author of World Famous Nelson’s Textbook of Pediatrics was once the Chairman of Pediatrics in this hospital), and returned to India in June 2009. He joined DMCH in February 2010 and started the first Pediatric Neurology Unit in the state of Punjab.
Dr Goraya has had excellent academic and professional career. During MBBS, he won several distinctions and gold medals for securing merit positions in various examinations. He was awarded a Research Fellowship in Pediatric Neurology by Indian Journal of Pediatrics in 2000, a Visiting Fellowship by Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) London, UK in 2002. He has published several papers in various national and international journals of repute and his work has been cited by others. He has also co-authored chapters to books. In May 2011, he passed the certifying examination in Pediatric Neurology conducted by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada earning him the prestigious FRCP (Neurology) designation.
In his current capacity as consultant pediatric neurologist, Dr Goraya provides out-patient, in-patient, and emergency as well as intensive care services to children and adolescents with various neurological disorders. He is involved in the interpretation and ing and performance of various neurophysiological studies such as routine EEG, Ambulatory EEG, Video-EEG, Nerve conduction and electromyograpahic (NCV/EMG) studies, Visual evoked potentials (VER) and brainstem evoked responses to auditory stimuli (BERA). He is also expert in management of refractory epilepsy including pre-surgical evaluation and treatment with Ketogenic Diet.
