Hello, welcome to my site ! I am Hemant Borkar, working as Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore in Metallurgy Engineering and Materials Science department.

I hold a PhD degree in Materials Engineering from McGill University, Canada.

My broader research interests include materials and manufacturing, process-structure-property relationships in metals and lightweight metals for transport applications. I am specialized in Al and Mg alloys, casting, deformation processing, electron back scattered diffraction, crystallographic texture and microstructural characterization.

I have experience of teaching modules for industry professionals and working on industrial relevant research projects. My postdoctoral work focused on the study of microstructure, mechanical properties and deformation behavior of Al-Si based alloys. The deformation studies were carried out by in-situ EBSD during tensile testing. I have worked on several projects in the area of high performance cast Al components.

After my bachelor degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, India, I worked for one year in Bharat Forge, Pune, India and gained experience on forging and metallurgical quality control. Following that, I received my Masters degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. Thereafter, I pursued my PhD from McGill University where my research involved the study of extruded Mg-Mn-Sr alloys with focus on texture, microstructure and mechanical properties.

In particular, I am interested in inter-disciplinary research which is focused on the product development by investigation of alloy-design-process-properties.
