Joint Treatment Works Wonders with Pain

The baby boomers have been more health and fitness conscious than any other generation before them.  They have been active in a variety of physical activities for years.  They are now suffering from pain because of this activity.  It just doesn't seem fair that with so much effort to keep healthy, they are now suffering pain as a consequence.  Regenerative injection therapy may be the answer to relieve joint pain and to engage in activities that have become impossible to enjoy because of pain.

 The Joint

Ligaments are like the rubber bands that hold a joint together.  They attach directly to the bones.  These attachments allow for movement while holding the joint tight.  Tendons are tissues that attach muscles to bone.  As the muscel flexes and relaxes the bones are moved.  At the attachment of these tissues to the bones are a great number of pain receptors.  It is good to have these pain receptors here because they will warn us of impending injury and we are often able to avoid harm.  These are teh same pain receptors that cause so much suffering after an injury has occured.

Ligaments and tendons are made in large partof collagen.  This particular tissue does not have a lot of blood vessels; therefore the circulation is low.  When an injury occurs this low circulation makes the healing process very slow and often it is incomplete.  This is why an injury may feel better but never becomes totally pain free.

The Injury

Overuse and injury will cause the ligaments to stretch or tear and become inefficient.  The natural response is inflammation to the area.  Through the circulation, the body will send cells to lay down tissue to replace the tissue that has been destroyed, cell that will dispose of the wastes caused by teh injury and all the nutrients and building blocks necessary for healing.  Because the circulation is poor in tendons and ligaments the healing cascade is often finished before teh injury is completely healed.  Because of the high number of pain receptors found at the junction between teh ligaments or tendons and the bone there is much pain in the area.

Degenerative joint disease starts with an injury to the joint as described above.  With the liagaments stretched and lax the joint is allowed to move in a way that allows teh bones to fub on the cartilage.  While this is happening you feel no pain because cartilage has no pain receptors.  Eventually the cartilage is completely worn away and you have bone rubbing against bone.  This is very painful.  Untill regenerative injection therapy, there has not been a treatment that has been able to regenerate cartilage.  This is the point where patients are often advised to get joint replacement surgery.  This surgery is no longer the only answer.  Regenerative injections can regenerate cartilage and tighten and strengthen the tendons and ligaments.

The Treatment

A dextrose solution which will cause an irritation is injected into the ligaments and tendons right at the juntion with the bone.  This irritation will trigger a localized inflammation response from the body.  The response will be just like the one caused by the original injury.  The healing cascade will be triggered.

Collagen which is the substance that makes up the major part of ligaments and tendons will be laid down.  This will strengthen the tissues.  Studies have shown these tissues to have increased in strength up to 40% above normal when therapy is complete.  As collagen matures it shrinks.  This action causes the ligaments to tighten.  The joint will now move the way it was designed to move.

Along with the dextrose solution, other substances that are building blocks necessary for teh formation of cartilage will be injected into the joint capsule when a lack of cartilage has contributed to the problem.  Regenerative injection therapy is the only known treatment that wil actually regenerate cartilage.

With the tendons and ligaments completely healed and the cartilage regenerated the joint is once again working properly.  The side effect of all this is an absence of pain.  Don't you just love the side effects of natural medicine!  The results are permanent.  Once the ligaments are strong and efficient, the joint is moving the way it should so the movement is not causing injury.

Other Treatments

Specific essential oils can feed the tissues and help them to heal.  These oils must be a therapeutic grade for tehm to work.  There are many kinds of essential oils that may not do the job so make sure you get them from a naturopath that uses them for healing purposes or you may be wasting your money.

Anit-inflammatory drugs have become a multi-billion dollar business.  They can provide temporary relief of pain.  They do absolutely nothing to correct the underlying problem.  Teh joint will continue to be painful and more injury will be causede because of its instability unless further treatment it used to heal the injury.

Cortisone shots will provide temporary relief for the pain also, but it not only does nothing to correct the problem, it can actually inhibit the healing process.  It will cause loss of strength in the junction between the ligament and the bone.  It inhibits healing, it inhibits collagen growth, it inhibits the strength in tendons and ligaments and it inhibits cartilage growth.  It is safe to say that cortisone shots inhibit every aspect of healing, making the pain and the condition worse.

Finally surgery is recommended to those that can find no pain relief.  Sometimes it works beautifully but other times after teh surgery the pain is still there, it can be even worse.  As wer learned earlier the pain is caused because of a lack of healing in the area.  Suegery is a very invasive procedure that will need healing in the same area to be successful.  Often in addition to the healing we have talked about earlier, scar tissue will interfere with the process.  Because of the problem with scar tissue, regenerative injections have a better record with patients that have not had suegery than with those that have.  There is still a good percentage of patients that can be helped with regenerative injections even aftrer surgery.

What to Expect

The injections will cause a mild to moderate inflammatory response.  Many but not all patients will feel an aggravation of pain from this.  This will last a few days then subside.  The joint should be kept active but not abused while it is healing.  Within a few days improvement can be felt by most patients.

INjections should be spaced 4-6 weeks apart to give the body time to do as much healing as possible between injections.  Every time a ligament is injected it will have more collagen lais down and will bociome stronger.  Some can be completely pain free after one treatmetn.  Many will need a few more treatments to be pain free.  Very few will need more than ten treatments.  Patients that are rebuilding cartilage will need more treatmetns than patients that need only ligaments healed.  The patient knows if the procedure is causing improvement.  When they are totally pain free they will know the therap is complete.

Regenerative injections stimulate the body to heal itself.  Thisis the best kind of healing in my o[pinion.  The side effects are minimal and the permanent results are phenomenal.
