Welcome to my website!!!
Atif Shamim received his M.A.Sc. and P.h.D degrees in electrical engineering at Carleton University, Canada in 2004 and 2009 respectively. He was an Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Alexander Graham Bell Graduate scholar at Carleton University from 2007 till 2009. Presently, he is an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Electrical Engineering in KAUST, Saudi Arabia. His research interests are in integrated on-chip antennas, low power CMOS RFIC’s, Carbon based RF nano- electronics and advanced 3D LTCC packaging techniques.
Dr. Shamim's research in the area of RF SoC and SoP designs for wireless sensor applications has won international recognition and earned numerous accolades for its ingenuity. He received the National Award from Canadian Microelectronics for his design "Wireless Dosimeter for Cancer Treatment" in 2007. He was the recipient of the "Overall Best Paper Prize" for his paper in European Wireless Technology Conference in 2008. In the same year, he was selected for Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) - Student Researcher of the Year Award. His work has resulted in two pending US patents and 26 international publications. He has been awarded the Canadian NSERC Fellowship in recognition of excellence in doctoral research. Dr. Atif has been named in the Great Grad honours list of Carleton University, only 22 scientists have made it to that list since 1942. His research has caught media’s attention and has resulted in many newspaper and magazine articles (see News & Media section of this website). He has worked on many industrial RF projects either as part of research collaboration or as funded projects. Testing BlackBerry antennas for RIM Canada, designing LTCC SoP modules for VTT Electronics Finland and designing ferrite LTCC based reflect array for Thales-Alenia-Space Toulouse France are a few to mention.
In 2008, he co-founded a technology company named “VSM Technologies” which won a series of entrepreneurial awards including First Prize in Enterprize National Business Plan Competition at UBC,Vancouver, Canada (2009), Nicol Entrepreneurial Award, National Finalist , Canada (2008), 2nd Prize in Launch Pad 50K business competition held in Waterloo Canada (2008), First Prize in Wesley Nicol business competition at Sprott Business School, Canada (2008).
