Individuation

The hero in each of us is required to answer the call of individuation. We must turn away from the cacaphony of the outerworld to hear the inner voice. When we can dare to live its promptings, then we achieve personhood. We may become strangers to those who thought they knew us, but at least we are no longer strangers to ourselves.”
-James Hollis, The Middle Passage: From Misery to Meaning in Midlife

In our culture, the first half of life is often focused on the outer world - fitting into and contributing to society, raising a family, or pursuing a career.  Yet eventually, we yearn to turn inward and focus on internal growth.

Individuation is the process of integrating the unconscious fully into one's conscious life in order to actualize one's uniqueness. Through dreamwork, active imagination, regression, and work with symbols and archetypes, I will guide you as you journey towards wholeness, meaning, and a deep sense of fulfillment.

My work is guided by The Force of Character: And the Lasting Life by James Hillman, Through the Dark Forest by Carolyn Conger, and The Second Half of Life: Opening the 8 Gates of Wisdom by Angeles Arrien.

One's own individuation work is often enriched by sharing with fellow journeyers.  I invite you to discuss with me if such a group is appropriate for you.

“Individuation is an attainment of spiritual maturity
frighteningly seldom attained in today's mono-cultures.”
