November 4,2011 Tiffany Theater - Pattaya City, Thailand
The stage was set just under a month ago when the official announcement for this years Miss International Queen 2011 Pageant was made during a press conference on October 10th. At the time there was much speculation about who would take home the crown. Would it be this years Miss Tiffany’s Universe 2011 representing Thailand or would it be some a representative of some other nationality. This year there were 23 delegates representing 19 countries worldwide from Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Nigeria, The Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, USA, and Venezuela. Each brought with them a dream, a hope, dignity, self-respect, courage, honor, and the love and admiration from friends and family, each one intent on showing their best and possibly taking home the crown. The end result for the contestants personal best and effort was an afront to their sincerity and worst is the realization that Miss Intenational Queen is possibly not international at all especially if all the judges happen to be of Thai nationality.
The following segment introduced all of the 23 contestants in their National Costume one last time before the announcement and presentation of the 'Best National Costume Award' which went to
Yasmin Dream from Brazil
After a brief pause, the contestants once again came out on stage to present themselves in their “Evening Gown”, and following were the awards presentation for "Miss Congeniality" which went to Miss Mokha Montrese from Chicago, Illinois, USA. Then the presentation of award for “Miss Photogenic” which went to Miss Yuni Carey representing Cuba, and then the award for “Best Evening Gown” which went to Miss Karin Fujikawa from Japan, and I have to say that she deserved that award for a truly beautiful gown.
Following that was the announcement of the top ten finalists and they came in this order: Philippines, Nigeria, Lebanon, Italy, Brazil, Philippines, Cuba, Japan, Thailand and Venezuela. There was much shock and surprise over the judges decisions especially since seven of the ten finalists were also seven of the 15 contestants who were allowed to perform at the Glitzy Talent Quest competition on November 2nd, I was equally surprised since it was stated in a press release earlier that the results of the talent night would neither reflect nor influence who would ultimately make top ten let alone win the crown. I think this qualifies as failure to adhere standards or rules.
Next came the swimwear presentation from the ten finalists. The ten contestants came out in swimwear ranging from gold or silver tone bikinis, a one piece gold tone swimsuit with a cut around the mid section, and a two piece yellow ruffled bikini.
After another brief pause came a three part musical presentation by three former Miss International Queens. First on stage was Miss Poy Treechada, MIQ 2004, following was Haruna Ai, MIQ 2009, and last was Miss Mimi Marks, MIQ 2005.
The following act was the awards presentation to the winner of the “Glitzy Talent Quest” which went to Lucky from China, who won on November 2nd, during "Glitzy Talent Night" at Central Festival located at Pattaya Beach. The next award was for “Miss Perfect Skin by Asoke Skin Hospital” and it went to Miss Sirapassorn Atthayakorn from Thailand, which was quite shock since she previously won that same award during the Miss Tiffany’s Universe 2011 Pageant where she took home the crown. The third award was the “Miss Ripley’s Popular Vote” which went to the lovely Miss Mariane Arguelles from The Philippines.
The next selection was that of the top three finalists who would each have to answer one of three questions hand picked by the contestants. The top three finalists were called in this order, Miss Sahhara from Nigeria, Miss Sirapassorn Atthayakorn from Thailand, and Miss Margaret representing Lebanon. The first question was picked by Miss Lebanon who when asked what is the most critical problem of the world today and what can you do to help solving that problem, answered that for her “the most difficult problem of the world today is war, and if we could have love and peace in our hearts, definitely we could achieve the progress of life that it will bring from oursleves, our hearts; that would give us a happy life”.
The second question to draw from was that of Miss Thailand, and her question was “If you are granted a wish that could come true, what would it be and why?”. What seemed like a fairly simple question to answer was replied to as such both Thai and English and it came as such “beautiful not all important, you have to be beautiful in your heart, in your mind, and most important, if you’re nice people....Thank you”. What she meant to say or was trying to say I do not know for no translation for the Thai portion of her answer was given.
The third and last went to Miss Nigeria whose question was”Other than your parents, who is your idol and what have you learned from that person?”. Miss Nigeria responded “Shirley Bassey is a singer like myself as some of you may know, I would like to be like her. She is a big inspirations for her, she has done so much and gone through pain to become the woman that she is, I have gone through adversity, discrimination, and harassment to become the woman that I am, and I am on this stage today as a living testimony that a dream can come true, that any girl if you are home watching this, don’t be afraid to dream, dream the dream it will come true, I am here today.”
After a brief pause came the farewell walk by Mini Han, Miss International Queen 2010.
Finally came the momet we’d all been waiting for, the announcement of the 2nd runner up, the 1st runner up, and the new Miss International Queen 2011, and the decisons came in this order. Second runner up went to Miss Lebanon, First Runner up went to Miss Nigeria, and the new Miss International Queen 2011 went to Miss Thailand, Sirapassorn Atthayakorn.
