National Honor Society
Dougherty Valley's premier organization established to recognize its outstanding high school students through scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The Four Pillars of NHS
Scholarship goes beyond grades; it's a commitment to lifelong learning, maximizing educational opportunities, and applying knowledge to make a positive impact.
Service is about selflessly addressing the needs of others, driven by passion, empathy, or personal experiences. It involves making impactful contributions that create lasting change in schools, communities, and beyond, shaping a better world through our actions and compassion.
Leadership goes beyond a title; it's about taking initiative, inspiring others, and driving positive change. Student leaders create a collaborative environment, shape their academic community, and foster personal growth, blending intellect, empathy, and resilience as they guide others and evolve themselves.
Character defines who we are, rooted in values like empathy, perseverance, respect, integrity, and honesty. It's about consistently making ethical and compassionate choices that positively impact both oneself and others, beyond public actions or mistakes.
"The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921."
