Opportunities to compete

Region VI Scholastic Chess Championships

This the big scholastic tournament of 2009 for our area!. The event takes place at Laurel Mountain Elementary on Mar 7th. This will be an all-day USCF-rated event that will run from 8:30am until around 6:30pm.  As with most scholastic tournaments in our area, the time control for the JV sections will be G/30 (one hour per game) for five games.   For the Championship sections, the time control will be G/45 (one-and-one-half hours per game).

This is a rated tournament, so current USCF membership is required. Players who are in K-3, though, can use the Junior Tournament Player (JTP) membership. Players who are in fourth or fifth grade will need to have a current USCF scholastic membership ($16 per year), which they can purchase through the Doss Chess Club, if necessary.

Register online by 3/4 for the lower $18 entrance fee. Complete information about the tournament and a link to the online registration can be found here.  You'll need to create a profile to register and pay online.

If you are unsure whether your child has a USCF membership (JTP or otherwise), please contact me and I'll let you know.  I have the membership IDs for everyone who has ever played in a tournament with the Doss Chess Club.
