2009 Matthew's Elementary SCHOLASTIC Tournament

Four Doss students competed alongside 105 others from around Austin in this all-day, five-round event.

Our team of three K-3 students finished 2nd out of a dozen teams. The team was led by Ethan Schaffer who placed third as an individual. The full game-by-game breakdown for this G/30 event can be found on the USCF rating site.

2008 Region VI Chess Championships

Eight Doss students competed alongside 260 others from around Austin, San Antonio and the entire Central Texas region in this all-day event.

Our team of six K-3 students won 2nd Place out of 15 teams (including the first place finisher which had 26 players) in the Primary Junior Varsity section. The team was led by Ethan Schaffer who placed fourth as an individual in a field of 83 players.  Jae-Hun Kim also trophied in eighth place in an Elementary Championship section which included three players stronger than your average adult  tournament player.  Our club had two other medal winners as well:  David Simmons and Anindu Rentala in the K-3 section.  The full game-by-game breakdown for this G/30 event can be found on the USCF rating site.

2008 Matthew's Elementary SCHOLASTIC Tournament

Seven Doss students competed alongside 180 others from around Austin in this all-day, five-round event.

Our team of six K-3 students finished 3rd out of 13 teams. The team was led by Ethan Schaffer who placed third as an individual while facing the toughest draw in the entire tournament and also was given a Good Sportsmanship award for handling a tough loss gracefully. We had three other medal winners as well: Jae-Hun Kim in the K-5/6 section; Jason Newman and David Simmons in the K-3 section. St. Andrew’s 2006-2007 SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Seven current and just graduated Doss students competed at the St. Andrew's Scholastic Chess Championship. This was an all-day, five round USCF-rated event with almost 100 entrants. Here are some pictures of our players from the tournament:

Our seven students were on two teams: a K-3 and a K-5/6 team. In their first tournament, the K-3 team finished second! The individual tournament results have been posted and the game-by-game breakdown will also always be available from the USCF membership rating site.
