Read-A-Thon Update

posted Mar 14, 2019, 12:06 PM by Corinne Altham   [ updated Mar 14, 2019, 12:07 PM ]

The Small School Read a Thon is going strong! Congratulations to all of our amazing readers for logging over 32,000 minutes so far! The students are trying to reach 45,000 minutes so they can color Ms. Groves' hair, 55,000 minutes to throw a pie in Miss Johnson & Mrs. Follansbee's faces, and if we reach 65,000 minutes, the top reader from each grade will be able silly string Mrs. Brier! We still have until 3/18 to reach our goal, so please encourage your child to read!  They can record their minutes on their online Read a Thon page or the reading log sent home in the totes. Attached you will find all the specific details, including an extra reading log. The donations we raise will be used for field trips (including the annual 5th Grade trip to the Boston Museum of Science) and Tales2go subscriptions for the whole school! Donations will be accepted until 3/28. Thank you so much for supporting our efforts to encourage reading while raising money for these enrichment opportunities for students!

The Read-A-Thon Is Here!

posted Mar 1, 2019, 1:26 PM by Corinne Altham   [ updated Mar 1, 2019, 1:27 PM ]

The Small School PTA is hosting its 3rd annual Read-A-Thon to raise money to help pay for subscriptions for each student to have a Tales2go account, as well as field trips, including the annual 5th grade field trip to the Boston Museum of Science. Tales2go is an award-winning student online audiobook service that streams thousands of popular titles for students of all reading levels. The 5th grade Boston Museum of Science field trip provides students with hands-on experiences to further explore science and math concepts they have learned in grades K-5. If you would like to make a donation, every amount is greatly appreciate! To make an online donation of $10 or over, please click on the link provided. Cash and check donations of any amount can be sent directly to Small School in an envelope marked with the student's name and teacher. Please make checks out to “Dora Small PTA.” Let’s try to beat our record last year of raising $12,125 and reading over 69,000 minutes!

The Pond

posted Feb 14, 2019, 11:29 AM by Corinne Altham   [ updated Feb 14, 2019, 11:29 AM ]

Due to the fluctuation in temperature this winter, our pond may not be frozen through from time to time. Parents and guardians should be aware of this if their child is playing at school after school hours. During the school day, students are never allowed on the pond, frozen or not.

Lost and Found!

Please stop by our lost and found rack and check for items (see pictures attached to this page.) The pile is growing daily. Over December break we will bring these items to a Goodwill donation site. We will keep items like boots and snow pants, wash them, and have them on hand for our students in need. Items with names in them will be returned to their owners. Please label jackets, snow pants, and boots. If, after the break, you find yourself with any snow pants or boots that don’t fit your child anymore, we can add them to our donation closet and distribute them.

Attention all families—please take this five minute survey from The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing and five lucky winners across the state will each receive a $100 gift card for their personal use AND our school will receive $1,000 if you win. Other schools are participating, so the more families from our school who complete the survey, the greater our chance of winning $1,000! Contact information for the drawing will be collected at the end of the survey and will not be connected to your survey responses. All survey responses are anonymous. Click the following link to begin the survey:
Thank you!

Today in your child's tote you will find login information for Tales2Go, a streaming audiobook service used at our school. In 2017, our students listened to a grand total of 212,165 minutes of audiobooks using this service! All Small School School students have home access to Tales2Go thanks to our wonderful PTA! The paper has your child's username, password and instructions on how to download and use the app or how to listen on a desktop/laptop. No Internet at home? No problem. We have lots of ways for all kids to access audiobooks with or without web access. Send me an email with any questions ( Happy listening!
