On September 24, 2009, the lives of Ivan and Sara were changed forever. Jennifer, Ivan's wife and Sara's mother, unexpectedly passed away in her sleep. Jennifer was 33, and baby Sara was only 6 weeks old. Suddenly, Ivan's life was turned upside down. One of the most pressing issues was how he would feed his infant daughter, since Sara was breastfed.
Like a lot of moms-to-be, when Jennifer was pregnant, she wasn't sure breastfeeding would be for her. However, once Sara was born and she gave it a try, she was hooked. For six wonderful weeks, Ivan looked on with pride as Jennifer lovingly nursed Sara, and Sara gazed back at Jennifer as if to thank her.
And then, one day she was gone.
One by one, moms came out of the woodwork, offering to pump for baby Sara. Thanks to the generous support of donor moms, Sara has been able to drink breastmilk exclusively since her mother's death.
Ivan knows in his heart that this is what Jennifer would have wanted.
However, more milk is desperately needed. The average infant consumes between 19 and 35 ounces of breastmilk a day. This translates into at least 140 ounces each week. If you are able, please help to ensure that Sara gets the best start in life possible.
