Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

(makes enough to frost one 2-layer 8" round cake)

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • splash of milk or half-and-half
Beat the butter and shortening for some time (5-8 minutes) until it is very creaming looking and smooth.  Add in a teaspoon of vanilla and then gradually add 4 cups of confectioner's sugar.  A few tablespoons of milk or half-and-half can be added to get the consistency that you want.
