Invitational Letter

This is last year's webpage for reference only. The 2021 tournament may be run differently depending on the state of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dear Science Olympiad Team,

Our Dodgen and Walton Science Olympiad Teams cordially invites you to participate in the Dodgen-Walton Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament for Middle School teams on Saturday, November 14, 2020. The Tournament will be held virtually on the Scilympiad tool. Please see registration information at the end of this message for link to use to register.

You may register up to 2 teams per school. Please enter a note on the on-line Google registration form if your school is interested in bringing a second team. We expect to have 60+ teams participating.

The Dodgen-Walton Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament will serve two purposes:

  1. It will provide an official Science Olympiad Invitational tournament in which students can participate. We hope that students will learn valuable skills preparing for and competing in this Invitational.

  2. This is a fundraiser for the Dodgen and Walton SO teams.

We are planning to run most of the Mini-SO events plus 1 trial event (Codebusters *). To do this, we are asking the experienced schools to sign up for and run at least one event per team. This will include creating the test, inputting the test and answer key into the Scilympiad tool, and providing graders for your test during the tournament weekend. Please contact the tournament director if you need help inputting your test into Scilympiad. Supplies and paper copies of the test are not needed this year since we are in a virtual mode. Tests and answer keys will be accessible to all participating teams after the competition takes place.

Final electronic copies of the tests along with an answer key are due by Oct 28th, 2020 (contact Kathy if exceptions to that date needed). We will put all tests and answer keys on a website that will be accessible to all participating teams after the competition takes place.

In an effort to have more Science Olympiad winners, we divide teams between two flights: One flight for experienced teams and another flight for those teams who are just starting or those who have not frequented state competitions. You will enter information on the on-line registration form that will allow us to determine which flight to put you in.

Registration:

Registration is now open. Please complete the registration form at the following link: https://sites.google.com/site/dodgensciolyinvitationalreg/home .

The invitational committee will send you an email letting you know if your team is included in the invitational or on a waiting list. Last year spaces filled quickly.

The cost of the tournament is $50 per team and payment is due by October 12th, with no refunds given after that date. Please do not send payment until you receive a confirmation email. Your confirmation e-mail will include payment details. A link to the invitational website and virtual testing tool along with the schedule and other tournament information will follow after payment is received.

We look forward to "seeing" you at upcoming Science Olympiad events!

Sincerely,

Dodgen & Walton Science Olympiad Teams
