Poetry

magnetic poetry: Magnets That Reveal the Poet Within.- just like the magnetic version but you click and drag, different sets to choose from

Concrete Poetry-choose or draw a shape and fill it with words

Pic Lits- choose a picture then select words to capture the meaning or essence

Mind Mapping

spiderscribe- can collaborate and share, insert images and links, etc.

exploratree- choose a many free thinking guides and fill it in online

Mindomo- can set maps to public or private and has ability to include multimedia

Blogging

blogger- this free blogging tool can be accessed through your Google account

Wikispaces Classroom- social writing for education with free accounts for teachers and students

Digital Collaboration

Google Docs- Excellent collaborative tool if students have Google Accounts.  Includes remarkable tools including research, translation, revision history, and many new add-ons.  Up to 50 collaborators in the same doc.

TitanPad - work on the same doc simultaneously with no sign-up required

Digital Storytelling

Pic Lits- a creative writing site where you choose a picture and then add words to capture the essence or meaning of the picture

PhotoStory - this is a free download for Windows XP that allows you upload images and add music, text, voiceovers, etc.

- easy, create your own comic strips by clicking, dragging, and dropping

Voki - create a speaking avatar using your own voice or a selected voice and share

Padlet - free wall to post/present information, enables links, docs, pics, video, etc.

- a virtual collage where you can add video, images, audio, documents, text, links etc.  Make sure you sign up for the free version!

- kick start your ideas, develop creativity and get thoughts flowing with these fun and simple tools

Tools for Dealing With Complex Texts

Rewordify - paste text or a URL and get a simplified version that replaces difficult vocabulary.  Includes tools for reading level, highlighting options, adding or removing rewordified words, learning new vocabulary, and a teacher page.

Text Compactor - paste text in the box and use the slide bar to adjust the % of text you want to keep int he summary.  Only use for nonfiction.

Open Text Summarizer - Paste text or a URL into tool to get a condensed version or keywords.  Select the summarization ration and language of choice. Only use for nonfiction.
