Troubleshooting:After deleting cookies & running a virus scan it resports it scanned dozens of cookies. Error

After deleting cookies & running a virus scan it resports it scanned dozens of cookies.

This has happened with every vsn of Internet Explorer I have used but I am currently running vsn 8:

After using TOOLS:INTERNET OPTIONS to delete all cookies, temp files, browsing history, etc., I close IE 8.  I then run McAfee virus scan and it ALWAYS says it scanned dozens of cookies when it has finished! This time it said 62 cookies wer scanned.
Why are
cookies not permanently deleted once I delete them?  How can I confirm that when I delete cookies ALL are deleted permanently?

Hi Liz,
Thank you for posting to Microsoft Answers Community Forums.
It seems that MacAfee is scanning cookies on all the user accounts on the computer.
When you delete cookies from Internet options it deletes cookies that are formed in your user account.
You may try to manually delete cookie files in Internet Explorer 8.
Follow the steps below and verify if the issue persists.
   1.
Exit Internet Explorer 8, and then exit any instances of Windows Explorer.
   2.
Click Start, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER
   3.
On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History in the Internet Properties dialog box.
   4.
In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click to clear all of the check boxes except for the Cookies check box.
   5.
Click Delete.
To verify that the cookie files are deleted, follow these steps:
   1.
Exit Internet Explorer 8, and then exit any instances of Windows Explorer.
   2.
Click Start, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER
   3.
In the Internet Properties dialog box, on the General tab, click Settings under Browsing History.
   4.
In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box, click View Files.
This opens the folder where your cookie files are stored.
   5.
In the folder that you opened in step 4, verify that there are no .txt files.
