Dawn & Kenny

July 26, 2008

Disclaimer:  Like many before me, I started collecting pictures before I ever thought of making a bio.  If I used one of your pictures and it needs credit, please page me on the Cincinnati and/or July '08 boards.

About Us

Kenny and I first met a long, long time ago.  I have been close friends with his cousin, Crystal, since we were about 10 years old, so we had known OF each other for a long time before we began dating.  We went to the same high school and shared the same group of friends, but I really don't remember much of him before the end of our junior year.  Crystal insisted that we go to prom together, so we did, and we've pretty much been inseparable ever since.

The Proposal

Kenny popped the question during a horse-drawn carriage ride on December 15, 2006.  Neither of us remember what he said, but the first words out of my mouth were, "It's soooo sparkly!"  Kenny had planned for us to have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory after the whole proposal thing, but I was too excited... I HAD to see my mom!  We made the rounds to family and friends and eventually got a bite to eat later that night at Chili's.

Just a couple minutes after Kenny proposed.

We love making our "excited" faces :)

 The Bling

Jared, The Galleria of Jewelry

I love love LOVE my ring.  I had mentioned to Kenny what I liked, but he picked this one out all by himself.  He did an EXCELLENT job!

Of course, the picture doesn't do it justice.

Ceremony Location

Mary, Help of Christians Church... Fairborn, OH

I have gone to church at Mary Help since I was an infant, and I attended kindergarten - 8th grade at their elementary school.  I have received all of my sacraments at this parish, so there was no question as to where I wanted to get married.

Please excuse the TERRIBLE picture, courtesy of the parish website

Reception Location

Hope Hotel... WPAFB, OH

It took us a lonnnggg time to decide on a reception venue.  We liked the ballroom feel and the country club feel, so we checked out alot of places in the Dayton area.  In the end it came down to the Hope and Yankee Trace.  We decided to go with the Hope for comfort reasons.  The ballroom is huge, so we have no worries about our guests feeling stuffy.  Also, they're remodeling the ballroom in the spring, so it'll be brand-spankin' new for our wedding.

Pictures to come.

 My Dress

Altar Bound... Beavercreek, OH

After trying on... well, pretty much every wedding gown ever designed... I found "the one".  It's an Allure Exclusive (sorry, I don't know the style number) in Ivory/Silver.  These pictures are in the sample dress, which is a couple sizes too big.  My actual dress should be in sometime in February or March.

The Bridesmaids' Dress

Altar Bound... Beavercreek, OH

My bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids will be wearing the same dress, Mori Lee Style 735 in fuschia.

The Flowergirl Dress

I have a slight obsession with polka dots, so I was ecstatic when I came across this flowergirl dress.  It is Paige's Place Style Coco in black and white.  However, they have since gone out of business.  So, a friend's mom is going to be making the flowergirl dress... inspired by this picture.  I actually decided to go with pink with white polka dots when I couldn't find any black and white polka dotted taffeta.  Pictures when it is finished!

I'm undecided whether I want to wear my hair up or down.  As soon as my dress comes in, I'm going to start doing trial runs and try to make a decision!

The Cake

Grant Storer... Fairborn, OH

We are having a family friend make our cake.  I'm a cake snob, and he seriously makes the best.  It will probably be half white cake and half chocolate cake with buttercream icing.  We'll incorporate the polka dots again with one of the below designs and top it with a  cluster of hot pink roses and green orchids.

This picture cracks me up.  My mom took this at my friend Jenna's wedding (Grant's daughter).  I love how their first dance is flanked by Kenny and I scarfing down cake.  I'm not kidding you... it's the best cake ever... look at the size of my piece!

The Favors

Cheryl & Company... Columbus, OH

We really wanted to do a donation favor, but I also wanted to give our guests something tangible.  I was so excited when I came across Cheryl & Co.'s "Cookies for a Cure".  Not only are they the most delicious iced sugar cookies EVER, but 10% of the profit goes toward breast cancer research at The Ohio State University.  ...AND they're pink!

Other Details

Asking the Bridesmaids

To ask the girls to be in the wedding, I made these cards.  I included a poem I found through Google and a handwritten note telling them how much they meant to me.  They were a hit.  I also got Amy a "Bridesmaid's Survival Guide", with the page-marker in the section about being the maid-of-honor.

Wreaths for the church doors

Apart from the "Will You Be My Bridesmaid?" cards, these were my first DIY project.  I'm totally not a DIY-type bride, so I must have been feeling pretty ambitious when I decided to make these during a trip to Hobby Lobby.  I actually think they turned out pretty well.  I used silk hot pink, light pink, and ivory roses and green dendrobiums (which you can't see very well in the picture).  Let's hope that the church lets me use them!

Placecards & Table Numbers

Again with the polka dots

We love this setup for the escort table.

Love this idea for table numbers.  I'll probably use pink, green, and black and white polka dotted paper.

Sandals Halcyon Beach, St. Lucia

From the beginning, we knew we wanted to do an all-inclusive.  The hard part was deciding where to go.  After attending a Sandals presentation, we narrowed our choices down to St. Lucia and Jamaica.  Ultimately, we decided to go with St. Lucia because it's more secluded, and it's kind of "different".  We loved all three resorts in St. Lucia, but went with Halcyon Beach because it's right in the middle of the other two... so we can fully take advantage of the "stay at one, play at three" deal.
