Geogebra is open source and free software with many people contributing ideas to improve it. Many features have been added reqularly, faster than many commercial software.
Big advantage to pupils is that they can install it at home free or even go online to access applets without installing Geogebra, only needing Java in their browser. For more information to to site at http://www.geogebra.org/cms/

TRAINING IN USE OF GEOGEBRA (For Dunman Secondary School Colleagues)  July to December 2010

Consider the various scopes of learning Geogebra for yourself :

Level 1. Basic Knowledge (1 hour)
Familiarizing with how to access Geogebra applet resources from the internet, and the various sites providing such resources.
Operating the applet, and knowing how to do basic constructions, basic graphing of functions, measurement of lengths, angles, and gradients of lines.
Using sliders to change values of variables dynamically.
With this basic knowledge, you can explore the available applets and decide which are suiltable for your pupils to use.

Level 2. Learning to Customize Applets for Pupil Learning (3 hours)
Using sliders, hide/show checkboxes, animation and other features to change displays and values of variables dynamically so as to create exploratory lesson tools in functions, geometry, trigonometry and basic construction for pupil learning. Uploading applets onto Geogebra Wiki site for pupil free access.
With the skills above, one can confidently carry out design of even the lesson tool (Geogebra applet)

Level 3 (2 hours)
Advanced features like generating objects using lists, sequences, dynamic colours, advanced animation and adding Javascripts to extend Geogebra's features and provide a very sophisticated learning tool for pupils.
The skills at this level would be more for the educational technology specialist.
