As the year winds down, it may be of help for you to take a look at the unit calendar to see what's on the horizon.  The calendar can be reached by clicking on this link:  UNIT CALENDAR.

A big THANK YOU goes out to all who donated good during the Savers Fundrive.  We earned $346.00 from this fundraiser.  Huge thanks go to Sandy Collins, who made the trip from Chicago to Buffalo Grove with four car loads of donations that she solicited from friends and neighbors.

It was great to see everyone that was able to come for Wednesday's Awards ceremony.  Congratulations to the many cadets that received ribbons, scholarships and awards.  In particular, we want to recognize the following cadets, who're awarded the Parent Association Scholarships:

$500  Burak, Grossman, Roth-Garcia
$750   Skocz
$1,000:  Lee

These scholarships are made possible by the help of each parent who volunteered during the year, donated money or helped with donations to the Savers Donation drives.  Thank you!

Next week, after chow, the cadets will be bussed to Feed My Starving Children for community service.  They will be bussed back to school from that event.

Beach games is coming up...on May 5-6.  The event begins on Friday night, when there is a campout at Great Lakes.  If your cadet has signed up for beach games, please consider volunteering to man the grills and tables during the cookout.  The long term forecast suggests we may have good weather this year (for the first time in a few years!)  Cross your fingers that we won't have rain, cold or storms.  If you are able to help, please send an email to Commander Morse:  jeff.morse@d214.org.

The next (and last) awards night and parent association meeting of the year will be held on May 17.  During this meeting, we will elect new board members.  We have three board positions open for next year.  Without a full board, the Parent Association will not be able to continue.  The Association supports the unit in many ways, but you see it most when it handles chow and coordinates concessions for the Chicagoland drill meet.  So far, we have only two confirmed volunteers for this activity.

If you have any questions, would like to be more involved or just need information please feel free to send us an email.

Useful information about PIZZA ACCOUNTS

A Cadet's pizza account is DIFFERENT for the cadet accounts that are managed by Commander Morse and Gunnery Sergeant Collins.

The Parents Association organizes and serves pizza during Chow on Wednesday evenings to cadets attending evening class.  Typically, chow (dinner) is from 18:30 19:00 (6:30 - 7:00 p.m.) in the Wheeling High School cafeteria.  A cadet may bring food from home or may purchase pizza, however, microwaves and refrigerators are not provided.

Cadets may opt to purchase a large slice of pizza (choice of cheese, pepperoni or sausage) and a bottle of water for $2.00.  If seconds are available, "seconds" will be called and are served on a first come-first serve basis for $2.00 per slice.

Payment can be handled one of two ways:

1.    Cadets may put money "on account" and the parent association will have the cadet sign in on a sheet for pizza, deducting the $2.00 from the account if a slice if purchased; or

2.    Cadets may pay money as they go and bring cash each week.  If the cadet pays cash s/he should NOT sign in for pizza.

If your child is short of funds, the Parent Association will show a debit in their "pizza account" and the cadet will be allowed to eat, but must pay for the previous week's meal the following week.  Cadets should check their balance to makes sure they are not in arrears.

Cadets with balances over -$8.00 will not be allowed to sign in for pizza - and must pay cash for pizza.

If there is a financial issue preventing the cadet from paying for his or her pizza they should see Master Sgt Galarza to discuss the situation.
