Welcome to the Distance Running Peak Performance course home webpage.  This webpage is design to enhance your course experience. 


Overview

This one semester course is designed to go into detail of coaching endurance athletes of all levels including youth, high school, collegiate, and elite athletes.  Specific instruction is given on the physiological aspects of endurance events at the cellular level.  Bio-mechanical tools will be taught and how to enhance running economy so your athletes will become more efficient.  After completion of this course, students will be able to set up a full training cycle for athletes of all levels with a goal of championship peak performance.

  • Week 1: 2 page paper with an overview of personal coaching philosophy and coaching history
  • Week 2: Balke's Field Test for determination of VO2 max
  • Week 3: TEST Chapters 1 & 2
  • Week 4: 6 week training cycle bulletin board
  • Week 5: 2 page paper over personal coaching belief system
  • Week 6: TEST Chapters 3 & 4
  • Week 7: Video presentation/evaluation of middle distance runner technique
  • Week 8: Design an 16 week barrier technique training plan for a beginner steeplechase runner
  • Week 9: TEST Chapters 4 & 5
  • Week 10: 2 page paper over the peaking tendencies when designing a training program for a 10,000m runner
  • Week 11: Design a graph to demonstrate weekly mileage for fourteen micro-cycles of emerging marathoners
  • Week 12: TEST Chapters 6 & 7
  • Week 13: PowerPoint presentation on phases of altitude acclimatization
  • Week 14 & 15: 4 page paper comparing and contrast the difference between
  • Week 16: TEST Chapters 8 & 9
  • Week 17: Extra Credit
  • Week 18: Cumulative Final
